chrisbin Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Has anyone, apart from Bert Jones, got any experience of fitting c******m cycle wings to their westy...? I have (I think) standard Westy ones at the mo and have got hold of some c******m Carbon ones. Is it practical to try and use existing supports or will I have to change those too...? Just thought I would ask before starting to bend metal Quote
Blatman Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 I think there's a fair chance that c******m wing supports won't be a simple fit, 'cos c******m use Triumph (Herald or GT6 or something) uprights.........the mounting holes are bound to be in different places to the Cortina upright used on a Westfield...... John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Ive fitted c******m wings. They seem only suitable for 13" wheels though. The brackets do not need modifying when using the wheels that they were intended for. JL Quote
chrisbin Posted January 14, 2003 Author Posted January 14, 2003 Hmmm Thanks for those responses. The wings have cut outs, on the inner surface, at different points to where my supports are currently, hence my original query. I shall have to look at again I think - worst comes to the worst I guess I can always sell them on Blat*hat....! Cheers Quote
Blatman Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Dax and Stuart Taylor Motorsport (or Tiger.........) sell cycle wing supports that utilise the unused dust shield bolt holes on the Cortina upright. IE, no need to cut down the underside of the top ball joint mount. Dax also sell some nice cycle wings, too. I'm not sure you should necessarilly say they are for a Westfield when ordering though............... Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 i got me a triumph Spitfire. the herald GT6 and Spitfire all use the same uprights i think. bit of useless info for ya Quote
samcooke Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 The wings have cut outs, on the inner surface, at different points to where my supports are currently, hence my original query. Que? What do you mean by 'inner surface'? I have c******m wings (tho not carbon) and they only have one surface and nothing was cut out from anywhere when I got them... Quote

Hi Sam - any busier now Christmas has gone? Errr.....thought that might not be clear enough...! The cut outs are on the inside vertical bit (that goes either side of the wheel) to allow supports to go "through"..... does that make any more sense??? If not, don't worry!! It was only an idea that someone else might have done the same exercise and could tell me that I needed either x or y or would just have to make do with z....! Quote
furtive Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 I have the carbon c******m wings on my Westy. The previous owner put them on apparently. They fit 14" and 13" wheels under them no problems *rawr* Quote
samcooke Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Ahhh. I think I see what you mean, the vertical inside edge bit has had a bit nibbled out to let the bracket pass through. I'm sure they don't come like this new, but I've seen a few that have had it done, it means less bending of bracketage and more contact area. If there's two cut outs on each wing you'd be very lucky to find brackets that line up identically. If there's only one, the ST/Dax/Locost jobbies mentioned earlier should go on as they are more similar to c******m's than westfield's and you can just line them up to suit the hole position IYSWIM. Personally, I'd flog the c******m wings and save for the proper westy ones, saves mucking about and the bracket quality is much better than the other options. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Formula 27, Dax, Locost, Tiger & Play's Kool carbon jobs and most seven type wings will fit Play's Kool, Tiger Dax etc also do wing brackets as of course do Westfield Hope that gives you enough options and choice to make your decision I use Westfield wing brackets with Formula 27 cycle wings Quote
CateringVan Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 Having got some Caterhum wings, surely all you need is a Caterhum to put them onto and you'll be sorted Tin hat on and waiting Quote
westy Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 Its not very cost effective to buy a c******m just for that....ooopps sorry shouldn't mix those words in the same sentence. /light hearted banter Quote
chrisbin Posted January 15, 2003 Author Posted January 15, 2003 Thanks Westy - you said it for me! Oh and the only reason I got the c******m cycle wings was, believe it or not, because they were cheap Quote
