Davep1 Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 My lad was spending this week caving at Gaping Gill so joined him to go down on the winch (5th time..) -however the winch was shut on Monday as it had rained a little bit! Onliest Smeg David Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 Unfortunately I couldn't head up this year. Quote

[/url]">http:// Another caver here, though I couldn't make the Eurospeleo event in the Dales last week. That does look a little aquatic. You can enter the main chamber below Gaping Gill under those conditions via Bar Pot. The whole chamber fills with spray and the noise is deafening! Another recommendation from me to experience the winch ride if you can. It will show you that caving isn't just grubbing around in muddy holes in the ground. Jen Quote
Davep1 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Jen, A lot of the entrances were rigged as part of the Speleo conference, so he had loads of caving done. As you say, via barpot, and small mammal entrance were a good way in to GG, and then back up the winch. At one point the water was 10m deep in main chamber - took out all the lighting they had rigged. The winch is a recommended 'must do' for anyone, although my days of going along Henslers crawl are long behind me... Dave. Quote
