Sat 25th July, lunch at the Roaches

Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative

Recommended Posts

Meet at The Wheatsheaf pub, Baslow, DE45 1SR, 10.30am for a run over the peak district aiming to be at the Roaches for lunch with a view. Then we will make the rest up from there.

Weather is forecast good and a bonus is that Sunday's Ashover car show is still on. I am feeling risky with the weather.

Who is coming? Anyone at this short notice?

Going to try and meet up with you all on Sunday, (I'd managed to rearrange a few things on Saturday, before i spotted this!) If it's not tempting fate, I've got your banner in the car ready to go!

We can't make Baslow in the morning but would like to catch up with you lunchtime or a little later. Directions for the lunch stop would be good but i'll have to text you a possible ETA on the day!

Probably will not be out on Sunday as the weather looking iffy and I have a broken Volvo to fix

Yes that's right Martin, we expect to get there for 12.00, but text me your ETA and we can shuffle the timing a bit.

Ian, see you shortly, my car is still in the garage, it's breakfast time for us.

Well we finally got on our way by about 12 and met up with Julie, Glen, Ian and Pat at the Bentley Brook near Ashbourne. Lunch was ordered immediately as we were all hungry. The food was good and the musical tables game was….er…..fun

Sorry we didn't see you Sean, hope your car is sorted

We left the Bentley Brook for a run around some good roads ending up at the Knockerdown near Ca**ington Water for tea and chat.

Before we left the Bentley Brook Glen pointed out an issue on Ian's car, can tell what it is yet?

Great run out, good company and cracking roads.

See you all again, thanks to Julie and Glen for arranging.

I love the long summer days, endless blue sky and no rush to get back home, it only equals Westfielding from 9 am until 9 pm, wonderful. Why can't tomorrow be the same?

We met Molestrangler (Ian and Pat) at the Wheatsheaf pub in Baslow and sat in the warm sunshine on the sheltered patio.

With Ormus Knight (Sean and Emma) missing we set off up the 13 bends, posing through busy Bakewell, down Crowdecote (not as much fun as going up it) and on to the Roaches Tea Room to await the Tamworth Two (MartynV and Sue)

With Martyn and Sue running late we decided to delay lunch and go over to the Bentley Brook, Ashbourne to meet them.

They came with news that Sean and Emma had car trouble and were not going to make it. In the meantime I had fetched my extra large black cloud with me and it tried to rain. Quickly back to sunshine and during the tyre kicking session Glen had identified an issue with Ian's car, caused by an impressive 180 degree spin and subsequent wheel change. Martyn has the pics but can you see it? After lunch we headed for everyones favourite Via Gellia road, led by Ian now, and onto the Knockerdown pub at Ca**ington Water. There we took root under an ever clearing sky and strong sunshine for endless merriment.

Thankyou for coming today folks, the company has been excellent, the roads and views as good as ever, hope Sean gets the car fixed, you two would have enjoyed it.

Take note of The Wheatsheaf pub at Baslow as it is the current favourite for my winter meeting place.
