darve Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I'm off to my local audi garage at 1pm today to test drive an a5 and talk to the sales rep. It's an approved used one - I can't afford to buy brand new any hints and tips to get the best deal? I'm not afraid to negotiate etc but want to be armed with all the tricks I can I'm a cash buyer and I can move quick Thanks Quote
Andrew O Byrne White - Ireland AO Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Call up a few other garages and bounce prices off each other or a similar specced car. And then maybe exaggerate the discounts they've offered for a quick sale when you're talking to your local... Quote
SootySport Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 A5's, very nice Dave, What version is it? You'll probably have more success adding free servicing to the deal than a cash discount. Dealers make more from finance packages than a cash buyer. Quote
Mooch Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I bought an A3 TFSI SE S-Line as an approved used Audi a few years back. I did a trade in with our old TT so did the negotiating through that route rather than the headline price to get a decent 'price to change'. You'll pay top dollar, but the A3 was as new and the after care/service support was excellent. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Daft as it sounds, salesman get commission for finance targets but you are within your rights to just pay the finance off within I think 14 days with no charges. So actually you may get more discount not paying cash initially. My brother got another £2k off his RS6 just by doing this. 1 Quote

Dave's an accountant so he should be wise to this. Quote

Lyonspride Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I'm a cash buyer and I can move quick Thanks Cash isn't really King anymore. They really want people buying new on credit/finance/HP, because this more or less guarantees repeat business AND a nice steady flow of approved used cars for them to sell. You may struggle to get any discount and they'll probably try to up sell to make up for any discount they do actually give. Quote
SootySport Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 The Quattro versions only have minimal mpg loss 3 or 4 mpg less. The benefits make up for it IMO. The Slines are the much better trim and have a firmer ride. Try and get a detachable towbar added to your deal. Quote

Most main dealers don't fit themselves so will farm it out and charge in the region of £700. I have details of a good local Witter approved man in van if need them - just PM me. Quote
GuitarmanUK Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 On the finance option, if Audi are the same as Vauxhall, the dealer doesn't get paid the commission until 3 months after the date the deal comes in to force. So if the dealer knows you are going to clear the the finance before then I suspect they will be unlikely to offer big discounts. I found this out when I bought my Insignia. The also make big commission out of Gap Insurance and Paint Protection products so watch out for them trying to add them on. Quote
Mooch Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 The also make big commission out of Gap Insurance and Paint Protection products so watch out for them trying to add them on. Very good point. I do remember having to be quite insistent that I wasn't interested in these but got the hard sell until I threatened to walk away! Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Pete You need to be slightly careful of impact on warranty of tow bar if not to factory spec. Quite a few factory spec tow bars will add an additional oil cooler for gearbox. Not saying that is the case here but important to check like for like. On an X5 the factory spec requires also an extra engine fan as well as oil and gearbox coolers and it is £2k dealer fit. It is not always just the tow bar and electrics you are paying for. Quote
