SUV for £2500

The wife is after a SUV and is considering either a Kia sportage 06 or a Nissan x-trail 04.

Anyone any input on these?

I'd say the honda would be better but the Kia is four years newer.

I can only advise, she has a multipla at the moment so my taste has nothing to do with it.

Anything is better than a Multipla ......................

However after doing a roadtest on a Kia Sportage of that type today with only 14k on it I can say it probably drives more like a Multipla although testwise we don't get many problems . The Nissan's can be variable I have seen some really rusty ones underside on that age but have also seen some very good ones too just make sure you have a good look underneath Stu , the driving may do the talking but then again you won't be driving it !

Out of curiosity, didn't the x-trail back in 2004ish run the same engine as the Navara truck that had all the crank shafts exploding?

smaller engine i think 2.2. versus 2.5.... Ive had both and the the x-trail was bullet proof and the navara suffered the oil starve issue

If you go for the Nissan - I can get mates rates on parts

My wife was a Toyota Rav4 2.2 diesel which is a joy to drive and gives 48mpg. For your budget I would look at the slightly earlier RAV 4 which have good reputations

PS - Doesn't the Nissan X trail have the daft speedo etc in the centre of the dash instead of in front of the driver?

What do we think to XC90s, RX300h's and Yeti 4x4s for a bit more money?

I had an Xtrail for 24000 miles with no real problems

A bit of torque steer when towing up hill heavy trailers

I could get over 40mpg but averaged 32mpg over the 24k I did

I liked the uncarpeted boot floor for moving bits around wipe clean after

The 4x4 worked well in snow
