msisleman
Rang them to chase up my registration and spoke to a fairly helpful women.... first thing she said is that all my docs have been returned to me due to me not enclosing an MOT certificate (I assume they will be on my doormat waiting to greet me later). I explained that I couldn't get one as it wasn't road registered yet, she said yeah you do it off the VIN. Eh? Apparently thats how imported cars are done..... We eventually got to the point where she said my application has gone in as if it were for a second hand imported vehicle, because of the fact I sent off a V55/5 form, and for an amateur built kit car I should have sent a V55/4 form and V267 (along with IVA, 2 forms of ID, and a cheque for reg and tax etc). Ok, fine I'll re do it all and send those docs off, but surely then they will want all sorts of proof of newness etc? I want a Q reg! I thought V55/5 was for Q and V55/4 for age related plate? Clearly not according to this women. I'll do as she says and see where it gets me..... Still, haven't been asked to grind my VIN off yet at least.... I can see summer ticking away in front of me! msisleman
Wait a min, V267 is for importing a new vehicle. I am doing neither of these things. I am so confused. What forms am I supposed to send to the DVLA for a kit car built from some 2nd hand parts, some new parts, for a Q reg??? DVLA clearly don't know, and I don't know... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Contact Westfield and ask their advice before doing too much, that way some kind of consistent process from our side can be established!
Dommo
I found Mark's guide very useful... http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/78459-how-to-complete-dvla-form-v555/#entry783266 They still messed it up mind
Andy (Sycho)
V55/4 form to register a new vehicle, including new imported vehicles and newly-built (kit) cars V55/5 form to register a used vehicle, including rebuilt vehicles, used imported vehicles and older vehicles that have never been registered I would do as Dave says & speak to Mark at Westfield, Looks like they make it up as they go along. msisleman
Thanks all. Spoken to Mark and am following his advice - resend the completed V55/5 I'd already sent them, along with a V627/1. Slightly worrying as I don't have proper receipts for the "major components", only a hand written one from the previous owner of the car that I will use to cover most of it, then use my reverse motor receipt from AB with the motor serial number for the transmission part..... Will see how it goes....
msisleman
So, it's been 4 weeks today since I sent my registration docs off to DVLA (the first time). Still no sign of a registration, but I did speak to DVLA today and she assures me that the application has now been passed to the Q plate department and that I should get something through this week...... believe it when I see it. Just quite depressing really when I'm missing sunny day after sunny day, all because I'm waiting for a simple set of numbers to be assigned to me!!! How hard can it be??! Kingster
I've banished all thoughts of how long it was now! But still wince in pain whenever I see DVLA related posts
Davep1
May not be relevant - but I applied for a new age related registration plate for my 1955 series 1 landrover, on 2 June, and it arrived approx 5 weeks later on 8 July. This was from the 'central casework group' at DVLA. In my case they were very helpful, but I also consider myself lucky! Good luck, and maybe give it another week..., Dave

dombanks
It's funny how they can be so crap on one thing and good on another. Took me 10 mins to un sorn my car and buy tax yesterday afternoon via the website. I was pleasantly surprised
msisleman
Finally.... I have a number plate. I rang them up first thing this morning for the usual check up/nag etc. And she instantly recognised my name and said oh wait a minute, ah yes we've just assigned you a number, I can give it to you over the phone now if you want, but not by email. Fine, yes please!! I said. So I noted it down. I asked if I can get some plates made up and drive it, is it taxed etc? She said yes. Docs are on their way to me. So I've ordered some "show plates" (as I can't get them done locally due to having no docs yet) and paid for special delivery so they should arrive tomorrow morning. Looks fairly sunny tomorrow fingers crossed, for its first outing!
