Quinten Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Not too dissimilar with my experience of the 'cheap and cheerful' steering wheel category: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=198857 Quote
Kingster Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Yeah, I'd spotted that post. Was interesting to see the response from the seller (Furore) who stated that a steering wheel is not expected to have any axial (push/pull) forces applied only radial or rotational whilst turning it. Not sure I'd agree with that. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I definitely wouldn't agree with it! As another poster in the thread pointed out, how often when driving do people use the wheel to brace themselves against both acceleration and braking. In addition you've got all the "maybe you shouldn't, but lots do" type uses like pushing the car around, helping to get in and out etc. Then you've got to bear in mind that the average race wheel will probably live on a quick release, so will be subject to all sorts of odd little knocks and bangs etc that wouldn't happen in the car. Plus, what's going to happen in an accident? Is the rim just going to rip away? Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I had one a couple of years back, I mate of mine saw I had one and told me to get rid of it as they snap.................... needless to say, I got rid and brought a Sparco one straight away. DON'T buy cheap, you get what you pay for Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 What was the brand that Filfan had snap on him? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Just done a quick search, here, looks like just as much of an issue three years ago. Quote
peet Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Having read this desperate to get rid of mine!! Anyone got a 280/300 momo or omp for sale pls?! Quote
Kingster Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Just done a quick search, here, looks like just as much of an issue three years ago. The post on Locost site did say that they had made them thicker recently - so might be an issue with older ones only? Either way, glad I have a Momo! Quote
peet Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Had mine 2 years so changing it out anyway - it was only temporary when I bought it! Quote
FILFAN Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 What was the brand that Filfan had snap on him? Not sure of the exact brand as it was of eBay. Looked very similar to the rmd ones though. Mine just snapped while pulling on to the A1. Had to nurse the thing all day until I got home. Quote
dombanks Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I've said several times about my rmd steering wheel. It's awful and thats putting it in a forum acceptable word. I would never recommend one to anyone. The only saving grace for mine is its relatively small so you dot get much leverage on it. Quote
