neilwillis Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Midlands man David? I get my kit on the 6th. Always happy to chat and exchange views Quote
DavidC Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 Midlands man indeed. Warwick to be precise Quote
Bananaman Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Way to go David. The FUN starts here. Andy Quote
driftawayuk Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 well done!! when does the kit come home? (or rather when do you have to go and get it?) Which kit have you purr chased ?? Mike PS good luck Quote
DavidC Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 Kit should be ready for collection at the very end of Feb. I've gone for an SEiW, Wide tunnel, VX XE Engine with Type9, all mounted 3-4 inches further back than standard (as per Blatmans reccomendation). RAC bar, powder coated chassis and wishbones. I stated poly bushes, and was told they'd throw em in for free seeing as it was Autosport show, but then he wrote Nylon bushes on the order. I queried this, but was told that nylon was the only alternative to metallistic bushes from them. Well, they're free so if they're not right I'll buy some polys from CAT. I'm getting a CAT quickrack and AVO shocks. So far I've got the cortina uprights w/recon'd calipers, a type 9 box, a 7.5" diff, and an engine is on the way in the next week or 2. Also got a pair of Weber DCOE 45s in seemingly very good condition. I've gone for Yellow with black cycle wings and black detachable arches, but am gonna pop along to the Thames Valley meet on Sunday and have a look at Blatman's green machine. If I like it I'm gonna change from yellow to green. No windscreen, gonna have the JPE stlye aeroscreen from www.just-the-one.net I think that's pretty much all the details there are Roll on March DC Quote
Bananaman Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Sounds like a good spec, had you thought of going for the light weight Chassis & Body, or are you going for VX grunt over light weight power? Andy I'm looking at building a Track machine next winter, with the Tim Duncan Areo screen etc.........(list too long to even think about right now ) Quote
DavidC Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 rather than go for a lightweight body and chassis, I'm going for the "I've got a limit of £8k on this car and I ain't going a penny over" option. Basically, if it ain't essential, I'm not spending money on it....yet. Aim 1 is to get this the car SVA'd this year and get used to it. Niceties like expensive lightweight bits will wait a couple of years. That is unless my flatmate decides to give me a free carbon propshaft (he works for CTG, they make'm and they're ******g awesome). Quote
neilwillis Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 OK, I'm an amateur when it comes to these high spec machines, but I'll enjoy mine on the road, and maybe the odd track day. SEiW, Zetec with carbs, MT75, Heater essential! & 17 stone driver Quote
driftawayuk Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Me, same as nielwillis, can't wait! end Feb...got me van booked!! Mike Quote

Don't think it costs any more to get lightweight chassis & body, over and above the standard stuff. It should be cheaper really as you are getting less. Andy Quote

markg Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 blatman is correct david , westfield call them nylon bushes and cat call them polybushes ! but check them when you put them in , some seem to give better suspension movement than others, see earlier topics, mine (westfield supplied) seem to be very tight and i havent torqued them up yet! went to get a propshaft today and found that i had the scuttle panel for floor mounted pedals and i have a top mounted pedal box! so when you pick up your kit, just check it thoroughly! you cant really blame the lads at the factory though as theres so many different engine options these days! they do thier best! and they will always help ! good luck with your build!
