Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) Oops, please read the revised description! The shed clear out continues; it's amazing what you find, tucked away, wrapped in a tarp. under the work bench! This is the gear box I used for a couple of years when I originally built my old XE powered car. It's a Type 9, five speed 'box, It turns out, after doing a lot of detailed measuring on behalf of someone looking to buy, that I was mislead all those years ago; This is a standard Type 9 gearbox, with standard five speed Type 9 ratios, (no wonder the Quaife felt sooo much better) and a standard length input shaft! (However, someone had fitted the V6 nose cone to the standard shaft, so it only fitted with a V6 bellhousing. The nose cone has now been properly modified to the correct size for a standard bellhousing and clutch. Many apologies for any confusion - just shows how kit car parts arent always as straightforward as you think! This is an original Ford box. It was used with a Vauxhall XE engine, standard apart from throttle bodies, so it's never seen a high power/high rpm engine. I replaced it with a Quaife Heavy Duty Pro box at the same time as upgrading the engine. It's not been used since 2006/7, has been dry stored with oil in. All gears worked OK when it was removed, Synchros were reasonable, (though I found could be rushed, when I fitted the quick shift, it didn't really need it, with a shortened lever anyway), Please note, no bell housing or gear lever is included, just the gear box. As you can see, there's a little fine surface rust on the lid/ main case - exaggerated in the photo's somewhat, as I'd just cleaned it up and sprayed all the ferrous surfaces down with WD40. Popping the cover off, all looked reasonable inside: Looking for £150, collected from Cheshire. Edited July 1, 2015 by Dave Eastwood (gadgetman) - WSCC AO Rep Correcting mistaken information.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 The price will go up, when I start getting post build boredom, and tinkering and repainting etc!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 Bumpity bump!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Will consider a reasonable offer before I bung it on Locost Builders etc.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 About to advertise elsewhere, it's in the way at the mo, £150 anyone?
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Have PM'd back Paul; from what you say of what you're already using, I suspect it's not for you.
John K Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Hi Dave, Ive decided to stick with a 4 speed, but need a new box as sync on 2nd is dead. So I'm potentially interested. Problem is I dont know what ive got and its hard getting decent pics. http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/113818-type-9-5-speed-swap-for-a-xflow-ford-4-speed/ Csn you identify if its the same as mine from the rather naff pics? But i definitely do not have the external bolts to the bell housing.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Re, for the avoidance of doubt, Type 9's are five speed boxes.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 The chap that's having it has bought it for an MG Conversion, it will apparently be going straight to a specialist for modifying and re-building.
