Dabbsy Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Can anybody advise on a source please? Need it for a 700-mile trip to SW France - boot box has got my wheelchair in! Chris
Stuart Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I once saw a Samsonite type plastic suitcase fastened on a spare wheel rack. Your wheelchair too big to go on there and instead use the bootbox for luggage?
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I've seen motor bike panniers used on the back for storage.
Dabbsy Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 Hi Stuart, my chair has to be within reach as I'm paralysed from the chest down ;-). I like the idea of a bike pannier or two Dave. So, all I have discovered so far is that Caterham offered one that monuts off an existing spare wheel bracket/wheel itself.
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Hello. Have a look at classic boot racks website. They do a model called the vintage which goes over the rear wheel. Not sure if they could do something.
Stuart Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Ah - you're travelling solo then Dabbsy? If you don't mind me asking - how do you get in and out of a Westfield? I have a good mate who's paraplegic and it's a b******* getting him in and out of mine!
Dabbsy Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 Yes, I could well be solo. It's a bit like getting in and out of the bath, not easy on the driver's side but harder to clamber into the passenger seat thanks to the exhaust. But for me I lift each leg over the sill, making sure they won't twist awkwardly on an internal bulkhead. Then transfer across to balance my bum on the sill, then drop gratefully in the seat, sorting out legs properly so you don't jam the throttle open. Then break chair down, hooking the footbar over the roll bar then slot the wheels in and bungeee up well.
Stuart Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 You must have hand controls then. Never seen a Westy with those. Brilliant stuff!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 There was a chap quite a few years ago now, well known in Sprint circles, though I forget his name. He built a four wheel drive, all hand controls Westfield, lat was awesomely quick with him at the helm.
alexander72 Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Dabbsy, if you want a wing man let me know... Put the luggage in my car :-)
Paul Ash Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Dabbsy I responded to your message where are you based?
