Greggs Posted April 25, 2015 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I would avoid the halfords one, tried 3 and none off them held under load, the load being the back of my westfield, so not much weight at all. Lyonspride Posted April 25, 2015 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I use the SGS low profile jack, it's about £30 now. It's a rebrand of the same one that many retailers sell (including Halfrauds). It does slowly drop if you leave it for a length of time (several hours), but everyone knows you should never leave a vehicle up on a trolley jack. The lift capacity of 1.25 tonnes is plenty for westies and most cars and so easy to move around the garage and put in your other car compared to a steel one. Plus side is the nice big rubber pad to protect your floor and space frame on westfield. Well worth it. Only compromise is life height but then buy a pair of axle stand which you would anyway for being under the car ( never rely just on a jack) and a cheap bottle jack if you want to go higher on the odd occasion. B.RAD Posted April 25, 2015 Share Posted April 25, 2015 I have one of these, it's fine but hasn't lasted long, the hydraulics have weakened meaning that only the last 1/4 of the jack handle movement actually does anything. Frustrating as it means a lot of jacking effort for fractional movements! Might have just been unlucky with mine, I'm guessing the quality is variable at that price point. Lyonspride Posted April 26, 2015 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I can't really fault mine, yes it's a bit of effort compared to my old jack (which was my fathers, from the early 80's), but it lifted my old barge (Vectra) no problem. Sure it's a cheaply made, no brand item from China, but then if you look at some of the more expensive Jacks, they're often identical to another brand as well, ie all made in the same factory in China. Kyle Posted April 26, 2015 Share Posted April 26, 2015 I've got the blue £100ish alloy one, had it for years, it's had loads of abuse on tin tops and it's still sound. Only thing is it's not quite low enough for some cars such as my old Focus RS which was lowered but not "slammed" just corner-weighted and geo'd.
