s2rrr
Did a Javelin track day yesterday at Oulton Park with two other mates both in there Westfields. Weather perfect, used my slicks for the first time. Failed initial noise test and rebuilt my recently repacked silencer then passed the test at 11:15. From then on it was out as much as possible to get the laps in. A few niggly issues with one car who had brake difficulties as he's right on the edge and seriously quick. Our other two cars ran faultlessly and what an enjoyable day. Massive grip, lots of serious cars and people who actually drove well as opposed to trying all the tricks to get past. Finished at just about 5pm well organised very few in fact I only recall one red flag incident which was quickly sorted. Ferraris and Porkers flying around a couple of Atoms, GTRs and radicals. All fast stuff and a good assortment of saloons. Good day out and well worth the additional £50 or so to get a full day out and with decent drivers. Not chavvy boy racers. AdamR
Glad you had a great day! I guess it must be down to it being mid week, I normally find Javelin one of the 'worst' for the boy racer chav types. Will there be video?
s2rrr
I had my camera with me but was so busy getting the laps in I couldn't be bothered. I was truly enjoying myself. So in answer to your question no videos I'm not fast enough either. The car probably is but I know my limits, having said that my speeds did go up massively with at least 15mph increase on my normal. Was very surprised at the grip available on them there slick things. We all said at the end of the day that the increase in cost and the good weather certainly gave us far more free laps than normal. Last track day we spent an hour or so chasing a bl**dy dog around the track, not Javelins fault but in winter there's precious little dry track time as it is without pets on track. Good day out, aching all over today but with a big smile. Bob
I H Freelance Services
Hi i was there too in the black megablade as you say a perfect day weather wise i too ran slicks for the first time and was impressed with the extra grip on the subject of noise test there was something not quite right yesterday i run a AB air box and exhaust on my car always passes noise test at 97/98 i always ask so i can keep a check on noise yesterday they said it was 102 ! this is noisier than the standard set up i had on originally a westfield megablade silencer and foam filter i have never had to worry about noise since upgrading to the AB kit i have checked my packing etc and all is in order so cannot see why the sudden jump in db reading 2 weeks ago at cadwell 97 last time out at oulton 97 , the guy next to me was 108 so had to fit a baffle his car was a lot quieter than mine before the baffle was fitted later in the day he removed it as he was having running issues and he never got stopped for noise we did speak to javelin who said that msv meters are calibrated but there seems to be some differance between msv meters at tracks should be if calibrated the same apart from the operators of the equipment that may well be were the inconsistency lies ! pre-lit steve
how do they measure the noise i.e. how close to the exhaust do they test cheers.
AdamR
0.5m at 45 degrees (and 3/4 max revs). No worries about the vids Bob, if you're enjoying yourself too much to bother then you've obviously had a great day!
s2rrr
Adam I think you summed it up. Brilliant day all round. Bob
Red Flash
S2rr, we were there also. Shame we never go to chat. Did speak with popmotorsport as they were parked next to ourselves. We failed the noise test too! got on track around 11.30. Noise test measured 113db first time round, then when fixed, 101 and passed. At Oulton the lance (noise tester) is virtual held at exhaust tip. We did try to argue with them, but to no avail. I spoke with one of the Javelin reps who had a noise tester also, which appear to read 108db, a difference of around 5db. He was trying to convince me they were calibrated!! Against what ?? Anyway it was a fabulous day in the end. Looking forward to the next one
