A beautiful sunny day at Gurston today, filled with the usual highs & lows of Westfield ownership, fantastic drives by Barry, Pete, Howard & Keith  :t-up:

Both Barny & Paul suffered engine failures, hope there soon sorted guys

It's not been plain sailing for me either with alternator issues and constant missed gears too, oh and a go pro thats got a mind of it's own  :bangshead:

Anyway here's my T1 38.28 not my best run, but the best I managed to get on video. T2 was slightly quicker at 37.96

Keith

My 64 ft time of 2.57 seconds was quite acceptable; then total engine failure before Hollow  :bangshead:

Hopefully will know later this week/weekend the reason for the engine failure and the extent of the damage.

Many thanks to all that helped me out in the paddock and pushed the car to my trailer.

See you at Snetterton, hopefully in the Merlyn but there is always the Westfield as a plan B.

Sunday was odd, as it got slower.  I can only think its the chalk dust and perhaps the cold.  I suffered chronic wheelspin halfway to hollow and over dears leap.  Efforts with corner weights might have worked as it stayed in a straight line for a change.

There were a number of complaints about slow starts due to the ending of wheelspinning before the start.  It was done to keep the noise down, but the nearest houses are about a mile away.  Plus are they going to fit silencers at the pheasant shoots.

But I forgot the GoPro, due to spending too much time on it not starting, which was finally traced to a loose battery terminal.  I also had a binding/overheating rear brake, which I took apart over lunch.  The wheel cylinder was damp, so there's something else to do

64ft was 3 tenths slower (as it was for most people) than when I was last there in 2011 when tyre warming was allowed. Overall run was 2 tenths slower than my previous PB, so I would probably have beaten my PB had tyre warming been allowed. Not that it matters to me in the grand scheme of things (or I try not to let it), but it might to those who can actually threaten the class records.

My 64ft times were hopeless - too much dirt on the start line. I think this new no tyre warming rule is going to affect records for the hill.

Can this still be classed as the same event then with regard to target times ?

This will NOT be a 1.6e due to it being a "new" event, it;s not, so don;t push it. Otherwise where will it all end ? You'll be having me make it a 100 pointer when some oil is dropped or a cone is in a different place. It's the same course until Gurston Down organisers declare otherwise, end of discussion. You'll just have to learn how to get better starts with no tyre warming, personally I hardly ever bother and would still regularly get 2's or 2.1's.

Not good!!  Timing chain still intact but chain tensioner destroyed, camshaft broken, significant bulge in sump - not bothered looking any further, engine going back to supplier.

Old engine back in for Snetterton and Saint Goueno  :)
