Hello and a little confused!

Hello all, new member here.

We have recently sold a very nice GD cobra and are looking for a track focused car possibly a bike engine as we also ride bikes.

People tell us that the bike engines are like marmite and you need to have a ride in one. So if anyone is around the leeds area and would like to offer some advice it would be much appreciated. We are based near Selby.

We went to the westfield factory open day this weekend and are more confused than every over engine choice!

Thanks

John

Hi John welcome

Best thing to do is get along to a local club meeting and have a look at other members sit in have a ride and get as much information off current owners as you can and it should hopefully help you find the right westy

Hi and  :ww:

I think the Yorkshire area meeting is the place to head for in order to get more information. I know there is a lot of choice and even more differing opinions so its not going to be easy but you need to consider what you want out of the car.

I'm sure you already realise or have been advised that a bike engined car is ideally suited to track use, particularly if you are used to high revving 4cyl bikes but they are not so good for town traffic. Whereas a car engine of a larger capacity can give good torque for town driving and good power for the track. The clutch and gearbox can also make a massive difference to the driving experience and this is where some of the bike engined cars can a bit 'on off' and 'clonky' to drive in traffic whilst car type clutch and gearbox can cope with continuous use and trickling along with slow moving traffic. The down side of car gearboxes is that the ratios may not be good for fast track work!

All I would say is try to get passenger rides in as many different engine combinations as you can before you make a final decision.

Good luck  :)

Hi John, I can understand your confusion - such a wealth of engine choices available, I can also see where the try one comments come from, the bike engined cars can have such a very different feel to some of the car engined versions, - not I hasten to add in a bad way! They can make superb track cars.

Fortunately, you've got a very active Yorkshire area up there, who will make you most welcome. You also have within the Yorkshire are a certain individual called Terry Everall! A man with a stunning Blade engine track car that he drives to great effect in our Speed Series Sprint completion. As Terry has worked his way through most of the common engine choices over the years, he's possibly uniquely placed to tell you how much he rates the BEC's on track! (BEC - Bike Engined Car).

Yorkshire Area meet the first Tuesday of the Month in Leeds,

Hi John and welcome to the club,

Also next Sunday, 19th April it is the WSCC Speed Series at Blyton Park and it is the Peak District monthly meet there too so there will be lots of people for you to chat to. I don't think it is too far away from you.

Cheers

Julie

It's less than 4 weeks until Stoneleigh.  There will be hundreds of Westys there and hundreds of drivers too.  You may well be able to blag a passenger ride in one or two.  A CEC is fine on the track too (see Blyton) and not as noisy!!  You'll find that each Westy driver thinks theirs is the best - Zetec, Duratec, C20XE, 4Age,etc.  Throttle bodies are better than carbs

Oh and  :ww:

Our next club meeting is on 5 May
