Simon Waterfall Syman84 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I have just put a new set of wheels on the old girl and thought I would treat her to a new set of wheel nuts so ordered a set of Cortina alloy wheel nuts the ones with the built in chamfered washer for ford alloys.M12 changed the fronts no problems came to change the rears and the nuts don't fit looked at the difference and you can visibly see the difference and look to be smaller does anyone know what fittings are and where I could get some from capri gt back axel thanks simon Quote
CrisisWolf Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Smaller diameter or length? Found my rears were alot longer so the captive wheel nuts didn't tighten up. Quote
pete g Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I only know of two types ones with washers like the capri lazer type which have a bigger hole or std ones. but they can come in smaller size spanner some are 17mm and some 19mm/ Quote
Simon Waterfall Syman84 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 sorry smaller diameter I thought it was me being silly but I tried the front on the back and the back on the front different thread so for time being I have just used old ones on the back maybe someone can have a look with me at the factory visit on Saturday Quote
Simon Waterfall Syman84 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Pete just had a look around and I think you are right they look like they will be 7/16 on the back and m12 on fronts Quote
Welly Jen Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Quite possible for it to be different front and rear as the front uprights would have been sourced from a different car to the back axle. Assuming they are Ford, then they changed from 7/16" UNF to M12x1.5 in the mid 1970's. It is easy to change from imperial to metric, or back as the studs are interchangeable. Knock the old studs out of the hubs and draw the new ones in. Should be possible to do it in situ as long as the new studs are not too long. Jen 1 Quote
SootySport Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Easier to change the fronts than the rears. Quote
Simon Waterfall Syman84 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Thanks everyone looks like I have another job to add to the list Quote
