What's the best oil to use?

I'm running a 2ltr Zetec and will be dropping the oil and changing the filters etc next weekend so the car is ready for the long trip to stoneleigh, but I'm unsure what oil is best to use, can anyone give any advice?

That's a bit of a wide open question and should arouse very selective responses.

My choice would be something fully synthetic, probably Mobil, Titan or Valvolene.

Pick a 5W30 semi-synthetic to Ford spec - it doesn't need to be too expensive as you'll probably change it before it's broken down (in my opinion!)

Better to use full synthetic either 5/30 or 10/40. I've used both in mine (at different times before anybody takes the mick) Any make will do it but mind Fords recommended specification.

One of the incresing pains is they sell 4 liter cans and we need 5 which is sometimes not cost effective.

I use Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1 fully Synthetic Engine Oil - Recommended by Ford, I checked with Westfield before the first change and they said that it was a good choice.

Only use Ford spec 5W30 for zetec.

 

If you have a silver-top then the tappets can stick with anything else.

Just to add, mines a 2.0 Zetec Blacktop so not hydraulic. Point taken if you have hydraulic like R7 says so 5/30 but if not 30 or 40 is quite ok.

If that hasn't worked go to www.carparts4less.co.uk and buy 5L of Shell HX7 AF 5w30 - £15.99 delivered, sister company of Eurocarparts so its genuine parts. Buy it in your local Shell garage for £30 plus, get a new filter while you are there too.

 

Filter to use that fits Zetec but is shorter than standard is part number 501745159 - £3.72 made by Mann
