Stu Faulkner Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Can anyone recommend a lightweight 15" wheel? Ideally black with the silver rim. I can't go 13" as my front brakes are mahoosive.

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 OZ Superleggeras always had the reputation for being amongst the lightest 15" one piece wheels, though they're all solid colour ASFAIK. CXR's are also a pretty light hub. Otherwise, the lightest are typically Image, Forge etc split rim three piece jobs. Most of these are available with polished rims and coloured centres. Not cheap, but very good quality!
Stu Faulkner Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Is it difficult to dissemble and re-assemble split rims if you wanted to refurb them?
stephenh Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2 get my vote for a one piece lightweight wheel. They were reputedly developed for use in the British Touring car championship and so are light as well as strong, and personally I think they look great on a Westfield. Last time I looked, they were available in a choice of glossy black, or graphite or silver. Black or graphite looks best in my opinion. Oh, and the price doesn't break the bank. In fact you can buy a new set of 4 for not much more than one lightweight Image split rim.
SelfMadeTramp Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I have just swapped from CXR's to TD 1.2 Pro Race and the wheel tyre combo of CXR/13" was 13.6Kg lighter for a set than Pro Race/15" so check carefully before you commit to Team Dynamics.......
Stu Faulkner Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Pro 1.2 13" will fit over the calipers stu. Thats good to know, There is nearly an inch clearance on the wheels i have so I guess not all wheels are the same.

Prorace come in 13" rims as well! Actually, I've got CXRs and Prorace1.2s. I don't think there is much difference in weight if you compare like for like. Obviously a 13" wheel and tyre is going to be lighter than a 15", but that says nothing about the difference in weight between the 1.2 and the CXRs if you compare the same size. As I said, I've got both, but I prefer the Prorace for looks. The only reason I bought some CXRs was that I wanted some 8" wide 13" dia. wheels for the back of my sprint car, and T. D. don't (or didn't then) offer a 13"x8". They do a 13"x7" which I use on the front however. 1

Kingster Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Mine are OZ Superleggeras. Seem very light but have no benchmark tbh.
stephenh Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Blatter, I am not doubting you, just pointing out that to compare one make in 13" with another in 15" doesn't tell us which make is lighter, just that 13" wheels and tyres are lighter than 15" ones!
Andy (Sycho) Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Et also makes a difference,I weighed a 1.2 et23 & one et40. The et40 was 1.5kg lighter.
Stu Faulkner Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 How do you tell the difference between a normal team dynamic wheel and the lightweight 1.2 version ?
