Harnesses, Ignition switch and Push starter button......

I read a comment the other day on here about the use of a Push button starter switch and it got me thinking.

The point was raised that when wearing harnesses if the driver was to stall the engine it can be difficult to reach the key to restart the engine and that a push button on the dash is easier to reach.

It would appear to be a valid point in that the key switch would be further away from the drivers hand than the dash panel would be and that harnesses would (and should) restrict your body movement forwards.

Does anybody have any comments to make?

Push button is quick and simple to install and makes life easier.

That's what I thought. Got to be easier.

I installed a push start button cos it looks cool... still catches me out though, where I'm turning the key expecting it to turn over... doh! ;)

Never had a problem reaching the key. Must have really long arms! :t-up:

Only problem I have is I often leave the helmet on the scuttle after I've done the harness up and then can't reach it.

I've got an ignition key on the centre of the dash...... :)

Not sure why my car was never fitted with the standard arrangement and im not convinced of the security of the ignition key I have (picking wise), but then with all the exposed wires I doubt the "standard arrangement is any more secure.

Push button starter good for those moments when you have a hill start fail

I was thinking about this very problem just the other day - I have a "kill" switch (ignition and fuel pump) on my dash and used to have a starter button but removed it at the last re-design. I wish I hadn't as I struggle to start the engine on the standard steering lock switch (especially if I stall it when fully togged up in helmet, lots and layers and harness   ).

I think I'll add a starter button back in  :)

With my last car, I lost count of the number of times I got fastened in to my harnesses and realised my ignition key was in the back pocket of my jeans. Starter button in the current car is my preference!
