Rory's Dad Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have a 2007 Seat Toledo with a 6 speed DSG gearbox which I fear is failing What reading I've done thus far suggests that the problem is the Mechatronic unit. It's only just started but occasionally the gearbox sticks in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Engine revs more than usual so I knock it into 'manual' and change it that way. Mechanically I think it's fine but I guess some sensor or software is playing up. So what do I do? Get a diagnosis from a main dealer (at a price) and hope they are right?? Is the diagnostic equipment 'main dealer' only or what? I think changing the unit is relatively straightforward. Anyone know for sure?? Lookng forward to you advice - thanks. Quote
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 You could try and locate an independent VAG specialist, there are plenty about, the ones I've come across tend to have ex VAG staff but charge considerably less. Quote
Terry Everall Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 martin I use Hammerton motors on the A59 ...good guys Quote
BudSlater Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Mechatronics failures are not so common now but clutch pack failures are starting to rear their heads now, both have similar symptoms. There's a specialist who can repair the mechatronics. Get it diagnosed properly but a specialist who won't just try the "swap parts out at your expense till it fixes it" approach... Quote
SootySport Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Have a look at the VAG forums (Seat, Skoda, Audi &. VW) Their diagnostic systems will all be the same. There will be a list of VAG specialists in their sponsors forum, who can do just as good a job as a main dealer., hopefully one will be near you. The mechatronic box of tricks is about £1400 so you need to get it done right. Quote
IanG1 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 You need VAGCOM and a lead to connect to the car to see if any codes, search the forums for info and ebay for the cable/software. Quote
BudSlater Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I've got a full VCDS lead which would work, you have to be careful, around 2004 they require a certain lead, most of the chepa ones on ebay dont work very well, so take a look round http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,88875.0.html https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209732397261666218585.0004c66cecde3f435ecb4&msa=0 http://www.vagoc.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=122 For someone who can read the codes for you Quote

Rory's Dad Posted March 31, 2015 Author Posted March 31, 2015 PR motors in Harrogate are ex VAG guys Told me it was probably software. Settings have been changed as experience of age/mileage accrues. Car booked into local dealer for a full (£96!!) diagnostic check Fingers crossed. Quote
Rory's Dad Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 ...and fixed! £144 all in But having said that how long does it take to connect up a laptop and then download updated software. Costs nothing for my phone and just a couple of minutes of my time! Quote
AdamR Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 If you need a genuine VAG lead again give me a shout, I have one. Same goes for anyone else! It's easy to use and the software is free to download. Quote
