Setup recommendations for GoPro 3+ black

I am looking for your advice  to setup the GoPro.... this is its first outing on the westie!

Going to Portmeirion over easter, just Jo and i...no kids, so if weather looks reasonable, go in westie.

With all software updated and talking to the iPhone, clamp on the RAC roll bar, the result in garage looks good. Amazed at the field of view!

This is where i need your help... for getting decent video, but being aware of battery life and storage capacity....

Video Res set at 1080 Superview .... (although i could try 4K 17:9...but would need some serious kit to playback)

FPS - I have a choice of 24, 30, 48 or 60.... i went for 30? keeping capacity in mind

Field of view  - Wide

Resolution - 5MP MED, 7MP MED, 7MP Wide or 12MP Wide.....i went for 7MP Wide

for photo...burst rate 30/1... sound ok ?

How do you set it up for reasonable video, watchable on tube or sent to TV ... my thinking a maximum 10 min video length and maybe a dozen in total

I don't have a remote mic, so will probably just dub a sound track over the video

Thanks

Andy

I have the 3+ silver and settings are 720p & 30fps & wide angle (wide angle is very wide, medium should be adequate and I keep meaning to change it to medium)  Resolution, I can't remember now. I also set it to one button operation.

Cars like ours aren't solid enough platforms for less than 30 fps, and even that can suffer from annoying rolling shutter effects caused by vibration.

Ive always preferred to stick to 60 fps minimum, for rock solid looking images, even when it's meant dropping from 1080 down to 720. But high frame rates and high resolutions will eat battery power.

Wide is very wide - perfect for lots of scenery in shot though, but other cars, people near by etc will look a long way away when you play it back.

Medium, not too wide, 720 or 1080 max, highest frame rate possible, good fast SD card(s).

As said, it's the frame rate you need to get the best quality and even 720 rather 1080 should suffice.

As above :t-up: 720/60 for me, always.

What size card do you have Andy? Any extra batteries?

Ok thanks for the advice guys, will set 60fps and resolution 720.

I have the piggy back battery, which should extend life, but set as above, no idea on life!

Card is 16Gb, fast write type. Need another really I guess.

May call on a friend to borrow his! He did offer his camera too!

What about photos, any recommendations

Thanks again guys

Cheers for the info - the battery bacpac should extend life to around 3 hours depending on temperature, how often you fiddle with it, etc. I would recommend a 32gb card in this case, as it will allow around 4 hours of 720/60 footage and match the battery life fairly well.

For stills - I can't really help with any certainty here, sorry, I only ever pull frames off a video for car-related stuff. That way you get 60 frames a second all the time and always capture the perfect moment ;)

What's ur thoughts on this one with 32Gb capacity? Speed ok for 60fps?

Should be perfect. I use the SanDisk Ultra with no issues, and have recommended these to others in the past with no feedback (usually a good thing!), and this is a 'lower' spec than the Extreme.

Thanks for all the tips and advice, sd card ordered, hope it arrives thurs!

Will fit camera on Rac bar pointing forwards then maybe rearward. May try on upright part of Rac bar looking outside the side screen too.

Just hoping now for nice dry weather this Easter!
