TAFKARM
Do we have any flyers on the forum, or anyone with a passing interest?
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup)
Hi. Not sure about flying but my girlfriend often says my head is in the clouds.
Terry Everall
Flown Thai Air, Singapore airlines, Eva Air, Ryanair, Flybe, BA and quite a few others. The flying is easy its just the take offs and landings that are a bit tricky Once flew through the air (whilst sprinting in my Westfield at Llandow) which broke 2 ribs and caused a lot of car damage
Kingster
I used to fly microlights. Flew to the south of France and back 3 weeks after getting my licence. Crossed the channel 4 times but but crashed on my local strip! Packed in after the near death experience

Chris Hooper
I have a couple of hours PIC in a Piper tomahawk. I WAS realy serious about getting my ppl but it's expensive like you wouldn't believe. It is a fine way to see the county though.

My nephew has just got his pilots licence ......... to fly a Boeing 737 My brother in law has had to re-mortgage their house (and then some) - don't know what commercial pilots earn but I assume it pays (eventually !) Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
A lot less than they used to in many cases; a long term customer and friend of mine quit his (very lucrative) job at Astra Zeneca to fly commercially. he did ten years of really making hay, but times got very tough in the industry when the recession bit. Although it seems better now, it still looks from what he tells me, a long way from the stunning years for many of his colleagues.
peet
I have been into flying all my life, my dads fault. I started my PPL pre children, was well into it not too far to go then the money ran out once the kids were here!! Very expensive but great fun and so over regulated and that just keeps changing and changing so when I retire and start again i'll be starting again! tisme
I was talking to someone last week who said the average debt that a commercial pilot starts their career with is £70k! Yes, that sounds about right - he did all his training in the States but when he was offered a job over here (after working 6 months stacking shelves at Tesco's to earn some pocket money) he (read: parents) have had to fork out another £20k or so to get the 737 specific tests and certificates Sounds like it may be an idyllic life in the end but you have to be really really committed. But everyone in the family is really chuffed - especially his grandfather who worked all his life in the aero industry.
