dhutch
I had the Aldi filter/regulator. The filter/regulator had exploded, sending shards of shrapnel from the clear bowls all round the garage, knocking stuff over. Thank God I'd just stepped out of range. Not ideal! Lyonspride
Normally i'm a big advocate of Aldi (the fact I can fill a trolley for £70 versus £150+ at the Morrisons over the road), but in this case there are better+cheaper kits out there if you do a bit of internet searching. ralphy
Such as? I’m interested to hear this too. I’ve had an Aldi/Lidl one for 7 years now and it’s performed flawlessly: even a spell in a friends commercial garage when his broke. But I’m open to suggestions for a better one thats similarly priced... R

tisme
Not wishing to wade into any pros and cons of Aldi bargains - there are some good alternatives out there at the moment. http://www.sgs-engineering.com/air-compressors/50-litre/sc50h-50-litre-high-flow-air-compressor or with tools http://www.sgs-engineering.com/air-compressors/50-litre/sc50h-50-litre-high-flow-air-compressor-air-kit The Aldi compressor was £169.99 I think (without tools) Ok, the SGS one is not a "V" compressor and it's 2.5hp as opposed to 3hp, but a) it's (still) available and from a company that specialises in tools and b) if you have a problem, I'm not sure if Aldi may be able to deal with it in the same way (like a replacement or easy repair rather than just money back?). Don't get me wrong, Aldi and Lidl have some excellent offers on tools and equipment for the garage and I have bought a fair few bits that I'm more than happy with. But you can still shop around and find bargains elsewhere .
Greggs
I have the SGS compressor as mention above by tisme, its a great little compressor and works well for me, the only problem i had was the manifold cracked when i changed the quick release fittings to suit my tools, the cast is very weak, SGS replaced the manifold within a day or two, very gingerly tightened the new fittings and all is good. Man On The Clapham Omnibus
About 3 years ago Halfords (Slough) were knocking out air stuff because they had decided the product sector was not for them. I got an SIP 50 litre tank 2hp compressor http://welduk.com/product/sip-05281-airmate-tn250-0-oil-free-compressor-50-tank like this for £50.00 I also got a pack of tools http://www.sipuk.co.uk/sip-07197-73-piece-air-tool-kit.html minus the impact driver for £20.00 (They're less than £30 to replace) Happy bunny! Chris Hooper
I could not find an Aldi with a compressor in stock besides air tools scare me so I bought http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Url.do?r=tools-workshop/impact-guns-accessories/sealey-cordless-impact-wrench-24v-1-2-inch-sq-drive-325lb-ft-cp2400&utm_source=TOOLS1510&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=SealeyCordlessImpactWrench&dm_i=HNI,38913,EK6D7C,BK6NI,
Lyonspride
Sorry, meant to come back to this, the thing to note is that the current Aldi compressor is a different beast to the one they had for the last few years and more expressive. I heard good reviews of the predecessor, but I wouldn't want to be a guinea pig for the new one. It's also even more expensive when you start adding all the extra bits. The cheaper alternatives are not the same capacity, but i'd rather go with a company that deals in these things, than risk it with a budget supermarket. Additionally i've bought stuff in Aldi before, taken it home and then found out somebody had bought the same thing, broke a part, then went back to the shop and stole the part out of my box. How about 2KW oil filled radiator when someone has stolen the wheels and you bought the last one in the shop? You don't risk that ^^ when you buy from a "proper" engineering/tools company/retailer/whatever.
