Stuart Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Hoping the collective knowledge can offer me advice. Moved into a new house 3 months ago and this morning have woken up to 2 molehills on the lawn. Any tips on how to stop Mr. Mole before he destroys the lot? Any (preferably proven) prevention ideas much appreciated. Quote
BudSlater Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Depending on the size of the area, I've used these in the past with some success http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PESTBYE-ADVANCED-SOLAR-POWERED-SONIC-MOLE-RODENTS-REPELLENT-REPELLER-W-LIGHT-X-2-/350789334365?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51acac755d Quote
Young Pretender Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 When my neighbur levelled and returfed his lawn they had a field day (pardon the punn) because the underlaying ground was obviously nice for burrowing. He got some of those sonar things that have already been posted - he didn't rate them but then his lawn looks fine to me so who knows! Quote
DonPeffers Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 I read somewhere that castor oil or castor oil granules on the lawn will kill the moles. Maybe best do some online research as I'm no great shakes as a gardener. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Cruel, I realise, but I was visiting a large property on business a few years ago and the gardener was mole despatching. He was watching a heap of soil which was writhing and wriggling as Mr Mole went about his subterranean business. Quick as a flash (a man of experience clearly) he stuck his spade under the side of the moving area, lifted up the soil with the gentleman in velvet on his his spade. No hesitation; he tossed the mole up in the air and gave it a thwack that a first class batsman would be proud of. The creature was over the boundary into the field quick as a flash and deceased before it'd left the spade! jeff oakley Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Best way is to get a copy of Caddyshack. Bill Murray shows how to deal with Gophers, just big moles. Otherwise get someone in, if you don't you will spend a fortune and end up with a lawn that looks like the Somme Quote
Captain Colonial Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Offer them a job here on the Moderation Team, should be enough to drive them away at high speed or kill them. Quote
tisme Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 the simplest way to get rid of moles in your garden is to ................................................ move !! Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 They don't like water and if on a slope, you can hose them out. It makes them move somewhere else. Quote
Geoffrey Carter (Buttercup) Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Find their burrow and tunnel with a pointed stick pushed into the ground. You will feel the tunnel by the lack of resistance when the stick pushes through. Buy some mole poison and feed it to some worms. When you find the mole tunnel drop in the worm. There is a knack to the stick though as if its to pointed its to easy to push in and to flat it is to hard to push in. Quote
John K Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 At the last house I had a three year battle with moles. Drove me utterly daft and to the edge of depression. Finally managed to trap one and whilst I despise cruelty to animals this time I had been pushed too far. Decided to dispatch him in the nastiest way possible so I buried him alive... Quote
