littlewoody
Hi Ladies/Gents... I have been considering getting a westie for a few years and now thinking "why not" and take the plunge. I have done a few track days so would like to continue to do that in a westie but I wouldn’t be looking for a track focused car per se. I realise I may need to travel for the right one. I recently sold my classic VW but due to the time of year didn’t get a strong price...hence I have a lowish budget (feel free to say it too low) but my budget is around £6k (tbh). I am not particularly handy under the bonnet so would be looking for something pretty sorted (I want to learn though and though this would be a good opportunity to "tinker" under my own steam). Any advice meets etc appreciated.
pickmaster Andy Lowe
Well I paid 5k for my xflow powered car and I'm surprised James hasn't turned up yet to shout the praises of his class winning mighty x flow So 6k can get you going and even competitive or you can upgrade as you get spare cash There's lots of help and experience here spending your money or tech help to do it yourself So if you wanted a ready to drive track day car most would say you need to spend a little more but some have done it for less And welcome aboard
Terry Everall
Start by looking on here at CARS FOR SALE section as well as Pistonheads to get an idea of specs and prices Also go to local area meetings to talk to others and in summer see some cars close up
SootySport
From the Essex Boyz. Good advice above and £6k will get you a decent car Xflow. Pinto and if your are lucky a Redtop or Zetec engined car. Doesn't matter if it's a bit tatty, you can always make it your own and upgrade the older parts. Kit Car parts are usually plentiful as they don't go out of date like modern TinTops. Take little notice of the original year of build as long as long as the car is roadworthy, MOT'able and used regular you'll have something to drive this summer. Stuart
John Ridler is the Herefordshire AO - details here. But I don't think there are enough Westfields out in your part of the world to sustain a regular area meet. The Cotswold area did a run with Herefordshire last year and I think will collaborate a bit more this year. You would be very welcome at the Cotswold monthly meet - next one is Thurs 27/2 not far from Jn.11A on the M5. Just let Andrew Reeves our AO know that you are coming and he'll look out for you.
M444TTB
I'd sell mine for £6k I think.
Young Pretender
Welcome I started with a similar budget and also had little mechanical knowledge. You could argue that some years later I still have little mechanical knowledge but I have 'dealt with' a number of mechanical issues along my journey and now feel very comfortable that I can tackle anything - even if it's new ground. This place will help massively. One pointer though.. expect to spend a little bit of money after your purchase (you may want to budget / allow for this). Maintenance is typically not very expensive, a rivet here, a spring there (hopefully nothing more serious), but upgradeitis doesn't come cheap. SlowPoke
I'm just up the road, in sleepy Ludlow. You're welcome to pop over and have a sneek peek at my pride and joy, the westy.
Aerodynamix Ltd
A local owner who does not go on the forum is considering selling one or both of his cars , he has a crossflow early SEi Lowline and a Redtop Sei , the crossflow has the best chassis (condition wise) that I have ever seen it is mint . Mechanically they are very good and would be an ideal start , if you are interested in finding out more let me know and I'll pass on Pete's telephone number . They are located in GL15 postcode area so probably less than an hour away depending on where in Hereford you are .
