As the title would suggest I am looking for an ally diff nose for an English ( Escort MK 1&2 )

I need more weight off of the car as I am going for a curry and some beer tommorow night

It does need to be in good condition.

Cheers

I'll have your old heavy one please!

Thanks

PS a 4.1 CWP would be handy too......

Dickie,

Rally and Competition Spares in Stoke on Trent usually have 4.1 by the bucketful. Just ring them up with your flexible friend and have it delivered the next day - 01782 518631.

Rob,

An alloy diff case saves 2kg. Is this really going to help you for the outlay ?(circa £200 + diff build up) If so, Lotus Cortina Spares centre in Somerset sell them brand new.

Does the ally casing save just 2Kg - I had a figure of 4.75Kg in mind and was considering this next time the LSD needed a rebuild.

Also according to fluke's weight listing the cast iron casing with diff is 17.6Kg and a BMC alloy carriered diff is 10 - sounds like rather a large difference.

Can anyone confirm for sure

I've got an alloy diff nose that might be going spare.

I have just had a look on the Burtons website and the quoted weight saving is the 4.75kgs that you have said.

When I weighed my standard diff, it weighed 17.5kg and when I weighed my ally case with my diff in it, it weighed just over 15 kg.

Where Burton's get 4.75kg weight saving from is a mystery.....

Yes, the BMC diffs are much lighter, but also more fragile to start with. I would only consider using one on a bike engine conversion.
