blue ass fly Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 regarding showing security, there are two ways of looking at it they are usually after an easy time - if they see ground anchors it could well indicate theres something in there however is it worth the time and hassle - and risk of getting caught when theres plenty more garages without the security that could have something inside too when i worked in the motor trade i met all sorts i was talking to a couple of scrotes that were quite open about nicking stuff they said that if they approach something covered with locks, theyll carry on and find something else that isnt just a thought Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Someone I know, (who's as honest as they come) grew up and lives in a real dodgy area, a huge proportion of the kids he went to school with have done time, many live off crime in one way or another. This is one of those lunchtime/tea break conversations we've often had over the years. His opinion, based on knowing plenty of thieving scrotes, most/the vast majority want an easy time, the more heavily protected it looks, the bigger the chance they'll move on to your neighbour. Cameras are pointless, unless giving you realtime information that can be, ahem, responded to straight away. Even the newest HD cameras are defeated by a simple hoodie and bandana! BUT, as part of a package of other equipment, they do increase the chances of someone moving on. There are a small number that will go for high value items at almost any cost, these guys generally can bypass most security systems, but often choose to go directly for the squidgy human link in the chain and simply make you give them what they want. Being an area with such high drug related issues, they don't get much problem with the third class, gypsies, the times someone does get hit, they simply tend to have a word with "a mate from school", who then goes round and points a loaded gun of some description at the head gypsy until the goods are returned. CrisisWolf Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I have a GARAGE DEFENDER DOOR as per the early eBay link on mine. A security light on the front and my tin top car is typically parked close to the garage as well. Part of the new house built two years ago as part of the builders 'secure by design' scheme. Quote

It's the other way round here. A friend had a Transit van stolen, the police ring and let him know the whereabouts of the van, it's at the local gypsy camp and his best bet was to claim off the insurance because the police aren't going to recover it. It was the principle of getting the van back so he borrowed a tow truck to go and get his van back, as soon as he was in through the gates, 2 shotguns aimed through the window at him and an Irish accent told him 'You don't want your van back now do you mister?" It's not worth your life but surely the police can do something about it, telling you to claim it back off the insurance sends a message to the gypsies that they will get away with it, time after time. SootySport Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 A couple of travellers took a shine to ladders on top of my van. In a broad Irish accent " That's a nice set of ladders boy" I got the hint and unloaded the ladders for them. Quote
blue ass fly Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 My old man had a catering van on an industrial estate Had a couple of pikeys pull up in a pickup One comes to the counter and orders an egg sarnie - the cheapest thing on the board Then the lights went off as the other one was round the back trying to nick the jenny Luckily the old man had a large " pay up" stick under the counter Quote
Dibby Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 He was lucky they didn't torch it. We have directors signing off payments to keep the sweet, we have to let them help themselves to diesel on site or by the morning there will be no excavators or JCBs left. It's disgusting how we have to let them get away with this, if you or I acted like this we'd be locked up. Quote
blue ass fly Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Exactly A copper mate of mine said its not worth the hassle dealing with them Arrest and charge them Bail them with a date and they disappear Whats the point Theyre not all as hard as nails, its just bravery in numbers They are not used to people standing up to them Quote
