Tjmann0
I removed the fibreglass cover today from my 1990 narrow pedal box to reveal the altered ford pedals etc and poorly fitted and cut pedal box ,is this normal ? I am thinking about removing it all and starting again any suggestions on what to fit ?
Welly Jen
Very early Westfield's used a modified Mk1 Ford Escort pedal box. Later they changed to their own fabricated pedal box when the Escort ones became too rare. Possible you have one of the earlier ones if it is from 1990. A picture would show for sure. What is the problem with the current box? Is it just aesthetic, or is there movement and flex of the mechanisms where there shouldn't be? Replacement is possible, but it will involve a fair bit of fabrication and possibly welding. Current cars come with floor mounted, rather than top hung pedals. This is a safety critical part of the car, so it has to be sound. Jen
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Off the shelf aftermarket pedal boxes are available, but, most are just universal fit items, there's no Westfield fit boxes out there, I'm afraid. Complete replacement is a major job, as Jen said, a considerable amount of work is probably going to be needed. Might be worth PM'ing Jos (Luxseven), he's got an early car he replaced the pedal box on, he might be able to give you the best idea of what was involved and any do's and don'ts. Failing replacement, then perhaps consider tidying and perhaps reinforcing what you have?
Captain Colonial
I've got one and they are fairly robust, but they can suffer from free play in the pedals if the plastic washers between them on the pivot bar wear out and disintegrate (which they do). Replacing these can make a world of difference, particularly on the feel of the brake pedal.
Martin Keene
The modified mk1 pedal box is not great, if your going to the trouble of replacing it, I'd replace it with one of the many generic floor mounted sets available.
