Terzo204
I am looking to do some competitive motorsport next season. I have a Sparco Formula helmet from 2009, nomex lined and with a scruteneers sticker on it (blue), but dated 2009. Will this be ok for SS and other National B level competition? ideally, I don;t want to but a new helpet but a friend of mine believe that it may be out of date. Thanks Mike
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
You need to look at the Snell or BS sticker and let us know what that has on it. The scrutineers sticker only shows that it was ok at that date.
Lawrie
Yes. Look at the other stickers. From memory one of the Snell standards expires at the end of this year and the old BS AFR has another year. I think mines a Sparco Formula, and its certainly BS 6658 Type A/FR**. **May be withdrawn with effect from 01/01/16.
Terzo204
I'll check tonight. I'm hoping it's still in regs as it will save me some needed cash. Slightly of topic, do i need to get a batter cut-off or will a sticker on the ignition suffice?
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
Snell SA2000 expires at the end of the year, so i need a new helmet, now I wonder where I can get one of those Sticker on ignition is fine.
Lawrie
Its only money, and they'll have run out of stickers, AND they've gone up to £

Terzo204
The helmet has BS6658-85 Type A/FR on a sticker on the side and 'Certified to BS 277695. Does this mean it expires at the end of the season?

Terzo204
It would appear that it expires in 2016. I'll get it checked but that may have save me some cash
MartinH
My helmet which I bought in 2004 is to BSI 6658 Type A/FR if it's good to the end of 2016 I'll have had my moneys worth, several SNELL standards have been superseded during that time. It looks like the helmet you have will be good for one more year but do check the condition any chips or scratches and it will fail scrutineering.
