When you take the wheels back, make some notes of the offset for future reference - I would have thought the supplier would have used a "standard" offset wheel so swapping them shouldn't be a problem (other than the hassle of you having to drive to Birmingham).

There's a useful offset calculator here http://www.willtheyfit.com/

Hope you get them sorted.

Hi Cleggy.

I bowed down to the advice I was given on here regarding the wheels.

I had my heart set on the BRM 6 model with the spinners but everyones advice was against them so I bowed down and had these made.

It was a good decision and they do look nice on the car.

Thanks for that Tisme.

I did originally drive Buttercup to Birmingham to be measured for the wheels as they are the specialists in what they do.

However talking to the manufacturer this morning, they said they just made them the same as they had done for other Westfields.....which is where it went wrong.

But I am pleased they have said they will deal with it straight away and for me customer service and how people deal with issues is important.

Image should look after you, looks like the offset is just wrong for some reason. (Not accidentally left spacers on the hubs or anything daft, when changing wheels? It happens...)

Or put fronts on the back, and backs on the front? Has been known to happen.

Did wonder that, but my experience on older Westfields that have quite different front/rear offsets, was that the fronts normally look a bit lost in the depths of the arches when on the back.

lovely wheels - any idea of the weight without a tyre in their final offset whatever that turns out to be?

Glad to hear you are getting them fixed

Good to see they're going to put it right for you.

I'd have been worried come MOT time, protruding tyres / wheels might have been a fail...

Whilst you're in Brum for "tea" and feel like the bottom's fallen out of your world, have a balti then let the world fall out of your bottom......

Hi Craig.

I bought a box of Diacalm and a load of dry bread so good to go.

The wheels have been dropped of and they will be collected on Friday.

The wheels will be made the same as the fronts and I know that the front fit ok.

Will post up a picture when its done.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well I thought it was all sorted but not quite.

went out today and when I accelerated whilst leaving a roundabout, the tyre on my side hit the bodywork and they was a smell of burning rubber.

It is nearly right but just not quite.

I have turned the knob on the protech shocks all the way to the right on both rear shocks.

Would it help with stiffer springs.

The ones I have on the car now have only just replaced by the boys at Blink and not sure if to order stiffer springs from them.

Whilst driving in a straight line and turning the tyres are fine. they are only just hitting the arch under acceleration.

Turning the knob on the damper will not help cure your problem, the purpose of the adjuster knob is to alter the bump and rebound characteristics of the damper.

Stiffer springs or altering the ride height may help, but may also have an adverse or detrimental effect on the cars handling.

It does still sound as though the offset is wrong - I think trying to stop the tyres hitting the bodywork by tightening the shocks that will in effect remove any suspension movement is going to result in a very painful ride to say the least (and possibly dangerous if the tyres gets shredded).

Do you still have your original wheels ? If so, could you not measure the offset and compare with what you have now?

Personally I'd be back on the phone to Image

I'm surprised that you have enough suspension movement on "bump" for the tyre to hit the bodywork, even if the outer edge of the tyre is slightly proud of the body. I don't have that problem, but then I'm using 13" wheels.

Looks like you may be using 15" wheels? I can't see if you have told us what size of tyre you are using?

Looks to me like either the offset has been mucked up or the offset calculation hasn't taken in to account a wider rim?

When I fitted really wide rims to the rear of my previous westfield (fixed arch seiw) I cut a heap of arch material away and fitted arch trim from a classic mini to extend the arches out enough to clear the tyres.

It was a track car so appreciate you might not want to do this to your car.

Cheers,

Dave
