Steve M
Hello all Continuing my nightmare quest to sort an exhaust system for my car. I've settled on a raceline manifold with 2 1/4 link pipe but now I'm on the hunt for a carbon silencer Motad can supply a silencer( 6 INCH NOT 7) in carbon in aprox 3 weeks as they are waiting on carbon Simpson ( can supply 7 inch ) who advertise on there website ' we now supply repackabke silencers' I'm looking at 4 weeks before availability ! After speaking to Raceline this morning I was advised to definitely go for a 7 inch silencer ( they don't sell 6 inch) if I was thinking of doing track days due to noise regs Are people using 6 inch silencers & having any trouble with noise ? Or is 7 inch the way to go ?
Terry Everall
The bigger the better as Size does count!!!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Bigger is definitely better. You can achieve good results with a six inch can too, but generally it then relies on it being as long as possible, and more critically, not too large a bore perforated pipe through the centre. For instance, my last Simpson's system had a 3" bore from the last collector to the tip of the tail pipe. At that bore, even 7" inch was a bit on the small size! Kit Car Electronics
I have a Simpson's 7x29" can on a 2.0 zetec- always comes in at about 93dB for ref.

Same size on my old XE car, but the 3" bore and QED Q450 cams meant I struggled around the 97/98 db mark.
