I couldn't find anything, but feel free to send me elsewhere if there is already a thread! I'm sure there are other people that might be interested in this sorta thing. If anyone wants me to do any crazy set-ups/tests, please let me know and I'll post the results. So I took a photo of my colleague earlier.. - excuse the 'I will find you, and I will kill you' pose. He was 85 metres away from me at the time, and this is image is uncropped from a full-frame Canon 6D. 1 second exposure at f/64 - ISO 8000. Any ideas on the set up?.. maybe not... so here it is. 1 x Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM with 4 stacked 2x Extenders. Effectively a 12800mm f/88 ish L IS, hence the long exposure. RichieH Posted October 24, 2014 Author Share Posted October 24, 2014 Surprisingly, it's not monstrously heavy.. about 6.3-6.5 kilos, or about the same as the older Canon 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM without any extenders on it! Because of the length of it, camera shake was horrendous. We had a 2nd tripod to hold the Camera end and shot on 10 second timer, as it took about that long for the wobble to stop. The 800mm with just one 2x Extender would be able to get you a 'recognisable' photograph of someones face from around a mile away, if you have a cropped sensor camera with decent resolution. At 12800mm, you'd be able to see the rings on Saturn, but the optics aren't good enough for that kind of thing with so many Extenders. Canon make there big 'L' series lenses in white so that everyone else knows that they're shooting with a Canon. "If it's big and white it must be a Canon" [or a Sony now] or "Must be expensive".
