djm Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Thinking about changing my profile/logon name but a) I don't know how? b) I don't want to duplicate a name already used but can't find a members list to check? c) If I do change do I keep my old content/follow information etc. for my old profile name? d) Any negatives to changing? Then go to the tabs on the left of the screen and click "display name" and enter your new chosen name. b. If someone else is already using it then it wont let you have it. c. Yes d. Yes, even though your display name will change you still have to log in using your old name djm. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I suspect only Admins may be able to change your screen name now, but it's easily enough done, just let one of us know what you want! To answer the other questions, no you won't loose anything, it'll all just have your new name next to it. If if you click on the button that's labeled "Goggle Search"'within the search box at the top right corner of the screen, a drop down list will appear. There's a box to tick labeled "members", type the name you want to search for, select Members and off you go! As for disadvantages, it depends. Other members might not recognise you anymore, so it can be a bit confusing! Quote

djm Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Dave When you click on someones name it comes up with details/profile of that person and on the right hand side is a "Display Name History" button and for you it shows all your changes and when. Yours seem to be the different posts you have held as are Smokeys so it probably is an admin task to change it. By the way you have worn very well for 10 years old! Ah, that's because we made a decision a couple of years ago that club officials, ie AO's and committee members etc should always be identified by their real names, and not just appear under an alias. At the same time though, we didn't want anyone to "loose" the association other club members who have got to know them by their alias through sometimes, many years of posting and helping people. So, we all have our real name, alias (if different) and our position. it just means that club members, regardless of how long they've been a member for, and regardless of how well they know other members, ALWAYS know at least the AO's and the committee.
