And ironically, if Westfield had not changed to the current shape, they'd not have had anywhere near the level of success they've had.

I remember this story. Daimler clearly have too many lawyers with no enough to do to bother with that. Although in all fairness someone is making money selling a product whose value is based around looking the same as their product. Usually these guys are cranking out letters to independent specialist garages and such like telling them to stop using their logo. BMW are very hot on this.

I agree, I do like the look of the Caterham shape. It's just I prefer the more rounded shape of the Westfield, particularly the swage line that runs along the nose, bonnet and scuttle, and around the arches. That said, I still go faint at the sight of a louvred bonnet!:oops::d:love:

I remember it too. Ferrari are the other big litigious company as far as trademark/patent infringements go.

The louvred bonnet is the only thing I prefer on the Caterham. While I didn't initially like it the Westfield FW-style bodywork, particularly the rear, makes for a much more individual take on the old Lotus 7. Drifting well off topic now, but I'd love to see Westfield progress the '7' design from an engineering point of view also. I gather they once led the way here.

I don't understand - why should WSC be afraid? Are CC back at WSC for copyright infringements and if so, any specifics??

They're not; just a joke title to the thread, hence moving it to S&N.

I think it's all a bit over the top

If Merc were making the gull wing car and it was taking sales off them maybe

But they aren't and if it's made without badges from different materials it's a tribute to there flair for design and a complement and should be encouraged to increase there own profile

It's our ball and we don't want to play with it anymore and neither can you attitude :(

Agree with you Andy especially as these classics are getting harder to keep on the road at reasonable prices.

Any work of art should be available as a copy to the masses if it is clear it is not the original. Especially if the original work of art is not being used and will eventually over time be lost. If not we lose our history and heratage IMHO

About 80% of the general public think I'm driving a Caterham so free advertising :) what's not to like about that :)

I disagree. If I'd spent a couple of years of my life producing a piece of art work that was to be sold as limited production run, I would do everything possible to then protect my investment.

I would be more than a little bit annoyed if somebody I'd sold my art to decided to run it through their photocopier and then profit by selling the cheeper copies. These would not only devalue my original pieces but further I would not be receiving any monies from the revenues of those sales.
