adhawkins Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Hi, Anyone tell me where I can get a main beam switch from? Don't really want to get the full switch set from Westfield at 80 quid . Thanks. Andy
stu999 Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Is it just an on/off toggle switch? Try Europa, theres a link off the home page.
adhawkins Posted January 8, 2003 Author Posted January 8, 2003 I think it's DPDT, but only two position. It needs to be DPDT cos (I believe) one handles disconnecting the dipped headlight, and the other handles connecting the main beam. The problem atm is that the switch has no positive 'click' when returning to dipped beam. This also has the slight problem in that occasionally when you go over a bump the headlights go off momentarily. Not good in the dark . Also, I want one that matches the rest of the ones on the car, are the ones you mention likely to look the same as the ones on a factory built 1997 SEiW? It looks like the 'Lucas Flick Switches' here is the one. The 'LFS2 Off/On Main Beam' would seem to match, am I right in my belief that I need a DPDT, or am I mistaken? Thanks. Andy
studbuckle Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Andy, Have you had the switch off to check as i'm sure mine is SPDT but I could be wrong... been known before
adhawkins Posted January 8, 2003 Author Posted January 8, 2003 No, haven't had the switch off, I'm just assuming (bad idea sometimes) that it will be. I guess I'll have to resort to just taking it out. Do they come out from the front, or do I need to remove the dash? Andy
stu999 Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 If its a flick switch (thats the one I was thinking of), undo the nut on the front, and pull switch through dash (into scuttle area). You may be able to fiddle it out without removing the dash.
adhawkins Posted January 8, 2003 Author Posted January 8, 2003 It is a flick switch, yes. I guess the question is going to be how much 'slack' is on the wiring. How far am I likely to have move the switch to get access to it? I guess the easiest thing will be just to go and look...I'll do that this weekend (don't get home until it's too dark and too cold to think about tinkering with anything!. Andy
