AndyC_772 Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Hi all, Looking for a working starter motor (with or without solenoid) to fit a 2.0 XE engine. Ta Andy.
stu999 Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 what gearbox are you using type9 or other Does it matter with a Vx?
AndyC_772 Posted January 7, 2003 Author Posted January 7, 2003 Actually I've no idea what gearbox I have... Here's a pic of the old motor: It's labelled as a Bosch 1 006 821186 1-2-2 - does that mean anything to anyone? The symptom it exhibits, is that when the engine is cold, I get a click from the solenoid and the lights go dim, but the engine doesn't turn at all. If I hold the key in the start position then after a period of time - around 10 seconds or so - then the engine suddenly spins into life. Having started moving once then it all works fine. My guess is that the motor just doesn't have enough torque to turn an engine filled with freezing cold oil. The battery is new and I've cleaned all the electrical contacts, so I think the motor itself must be dead - having wrestled it out from the car I'd rather replace it now anyway. Andy.
stu999 Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Andy, AFAIK it makes no difference what gearbox you have, as the starter bolts to the engine, and not the bellhousing as with a Ford motor. I did have one, but I swapped it for a load of beer to a local club member. But that doesnt help you much..... If you dont have any luck, try Migweb....for all things VX.
Blatman Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Or get it refurbed at your local auto electrical factors. Also, IIRC, if you go to Halfords and ask for the correct starter for your year of engine, you'll get a nice small (and lighter) Valeo starter. It's about 90 quid mind, but I believe you can save as much as 2-3 kilos.........I'll stand to be corrected on that though, 'cos the one I saw was a while ago, and the conversation (with the owner of a certain Yellow Vx powered c******m) is not exactly fresh in my mind.........
