BudSlater Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Engine spec is as follows: 205 block Injection head (with no known fettling) Newman ph 4 cam with vernier pulley Standard westfield 4-1 exhaust ZX6R bike carbs on DanST inlet manifold Electronic ignition in distributor Getting the carbs fettled today, any guesses as to what HP / Torque it'll get. Closest guess wins! Quote
Speed Freak Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 don't know what head/port work you've had done, but I'll take a blind guess as by the way you've written it, "closest guess wins" the engine right ? 152hp @ fly, torque no idea....... 180lbs? Quote
Andrew Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 If it's a standard head.. 142.5bhp @ the flywheel and 144ft lbs Quote
Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 At the flywheel 138.7bhp and 142lbs ft torque Quote
BudSlater Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 The results are in... Cam timing adjusted, carbs adjusted....Turns out the premise of less weight = faster is very true. How such a miserly amount of BHP can propel the car at such a rate is shocking to me. Anyhow, bring on the Duratec conversion as that is an almost guaranteed 170hp.... The winner was Alladdin with a suspiciously accurate guess - just 1hp out! Estimated 127hp at the fly, measured 106hp at the wheels! Quote
ALLADDIN Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 the pinto is a very torque engine, pulls like a train. it is after all a basically standard engine with a cam ? the std carb will not restrict up to around 130 bhp unmodified so the bike carbs wont really contribute much in reality. and i guess the rr you put it on is not a Disney readout. the highest guess above of 166 would require a decent B/V (or possibly VERY well ported std ) head, twin 45 dcoe, probably a raise in compression , etc. Quote
Speed Freak Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 what stumped me was the phase 4 cam--- its quite a high spec cam, and I assumed the head would need some work to have that cam installed- hence why I went with higher power... its probably a waste of time running that spec cam, without opening up the head tbh- as this is one of the biggest power factors on the pinto engine.. ALLADDIN Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 It's more compression probably , well a lack of it ! The more lairy the cam the more static compression it needs , I dare say a good head skim would be beneficial. Do you know the c.r. or chamber volume ? Quote

Nope, only had the car a month or so, already have a swap planned to duratec (st150) but by god, if this is what 125-130hp feels like, 180-200 is going to be fun!!! Interested in modding, but right now, with the short summers that we get, more interested in driving it and getting the duratec in over winter Quote
