Petemac Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Thinking of going to France for a few days with a view to camping and visiting Le Man's. I don't mind if I camp away from Le Mans within 30 perhaps 40 miles I will be happy with that, can anyone give me some advice please, my plan was just to set off Thursday/ Friday I haven't booked anywhere because I'm not 100% sure I will be going, I'm one of those who just wakes up and if the mood takes me I will leave on the spur of the moment, I'm looking at taking my own gear tent etc. Have any of you guys done this sort of thing before all I need is somewhere to pitch my tent that's not too expensive with basic stuff showers and so on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and does it cost much to camp in France?? Thanks in advance. Pete Quote
Mark Stanton Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I did similar many years ago and found a great campsite at Le Lude - clean and tidy, peaceful and an easy work into the town for essential supplies and about 20 to 30 mile from circuit Quote
Sparkymart Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I tour around France most years and not had any problems over there most towns have a municipal camp site Normally basic but fine for a couple of nights and normal cheap the only place I won't recommend is the municipal site in calais I normally stay in Dunkirk and drive to calais there is a website with most campsite's listed on it with there long and lat listed so you can put it into your sat nav. I try and avoid the motorways as they have tolls on them and it can get expensive if you do any distance I'll see if I can find out the name of the campsite for you, you can also get camping in France books with recommend campsites listed Quote
Petemac Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 That would be great thanks for your help much appreciated. Regards Pete Quote

Kit Car Electronics and Essex AO Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I personally find the Michelin Camping France guide excellent; added bonus is the same sites are shown on the Michelin road atlas, which has added benefit of green lined scenic routes... Quote

Pistol Pete Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 When caravaning with the family i use Castle sites. They are all set in the grounds of chatauxs and are usually teamed up with eurocamp and are always very nice. Quote
