pistonbroke Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 My Lady wife thinking to buy one of these Vauxhall Movano based ( not particularly this one ) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221455861301&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en Anyone of you out there know anything in particular to look out for when buying 2nd hand Movano ? Lyonspride Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Should be reliable enough, they (the big manufacturers) make vans and fleet vehicles to be pretty reliable as breakdowns could very quickly lead to a huge reduction in sales. In sharp contrast they make small cars to be utterly terrible, because it brings business into the dealerships in the form of after sales and servicing. Quote
jeff oakley Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 The Vivaro and Movano vans are good enough, do not under any circumstance anyone reading this buy a Combo which are without doubt the worst van our fleet has ever had and we have had Renault and Citroen before!!! Quote
Tricky Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 We used to have major problems with the vivaro fleet, gearbox and clutch issues. Quote
blue ass fly Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Arent they renault masters rebadged Gearbox failure common Quote
Jonk179 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 They aren't good. We ran a fleet of them, nothing but problems. Gearboxes, injectors, suspension and general electricals all caused big headaches and downtime. We won't go near them again. Quote
dombanks Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 i remember the x looking at these sorts of vans and the problems she came across was the weight limit. they are based on 3.5T if remember right but some of them back then without any nag (or horse for that matter) and associated tat ... sorry tack were already over 2T add a decent wieght horse and a associated tat ... err tack ... and it was over. so it may be something to watch out for. alexander72 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 They are great little vans and good for a lady. We have a lorry stalled for for 3 at moment but would take 4 17 hand horses and I'm building living at moment :-) that's a good price as well :-) Quote
Jonk179 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 The weight is a good point. Over 3500kgs and anyone who passed their car test post January 1997 can't drive it. Quote
pistonbroke Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 We hired a Renault version about a month ago , didn't realise they are vertually the same chassis re badged No problems with pulling the wieght or any driveability issues as far as I could tell . We are both "mature citizens " so we won't need to worry about the licence / wieght stuff . having to look into insurance costs plus breakdown cover which seems a bit specialised for horse boxes in the event they would have to recover the vehicle plus any horse / horses on board , which would I presume mean supplying another box van to get the animals home ? Thanks for the input gents , as always most informative , still looking and shopping around, plenty out there , just finding one in the right condition and at the right price Quote

I'm told the horses she owns are under 500 kg each , been told the weight not an issue in this case Quote
dombanks Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 should be fine then, IRC the payload for these was around 1200kg give or take, it soon adds up tho. i remember doing the calcs for the x' 7.5t lorry. 2x nag @500kg 2 riders @80kg 50l tub of water and your at 1210kg already. having said that in all the shows and stuff i went to with her i never saw anyone get weighed so even if you did tip it over the limit on the odd occasion then who would know.
