Lyonspride
[rant] So, got myself some spanking new tyres, put them in the boot of of my barge and took it in for its big cambelt change.I had the front two new tyres fitted last week and they ended up with weights almost all the way around the inside of the wheels, compared to the single weight they had previously, so this time I ask them to line up the yellow dot with the valves....... I get back an arguement that it makes no difference and that old wheels never balance right anyway and they rotate the tyre to best position before balancing. Right how exactly? Visually or with phsycic powers?Last I saw it was fit, inflate, balance, done. All I want is to keep the wheel weights as even as possible on the same axle!! This stuff matters a lot more on a car that weighs less than half that of the average hatchback.I think I'll get them double checked later, just in case. [/rant] Forgive phone spelling! Terry Everall
never seen anyone able to rotate a tyre on a rim to guess at best potion for balancing it Must be a magicians trick
XTR2Turbo
Normally the balancer will tell you to optimise by rotating the tyre through 180 if too much weight required
Lyonspride
Well I got the last 2 tyres done and they lined up the marks........ Guess what? I know have 2 weights TOTAL on each of those two wheels and the other two have a whole ring of them around the inside!!! Same wheels, same tyre's, the second pair fitted properly. Amazing what they can do when they try! Now i'm wondering if it worth going somewhere else and getting the first two done again.......
jeff oakley
Tyres do have a heavy spot but to be honest most wheels are not perfectly balanced before tyres are fitted. Any experienced fitter will know what is excessive or not and correct them. I used to be a regional manager for National Tyres in the past, so when I had some fitted recently I watched the lad do the wheel and balance it, then put another weight on in a different position. Balance again and yet another weight in another position. He had completely cocked it up, when I pointed out this was not correct, the manager jumped to his defence until I pointed out my experience when he then admitted it was wrong and made him do it again.
