Bunch of numpties.......

Personally it isn't the privacy angle that concerns me. The data interpretation into risk factors much more so. One could easily forsee a situation where you are labelled risky for accelerating quickly down a motorway slip road up to 70mph but entering at sub-50% of the prevailing traffic speed (does anyone else find this increasingly common?) doesn't count for anything.

I know what you mean, there are many situations where doing the right thing could look bad when viewed on a data log from a GPS box.

Also what's to stop this data being passed on and used to generate speeding fines etc.

If everyone had one and there was a centralised system in control, they could look at your data and say "ah yes, he was speeding here because the other driver was trying to close the gap", but in reality they'd never go to that level of detail, you'll just look like a lunatic and lose your licence for trying to do the safe thing.

my work want to trial this type of tech (mainly to reduce insurance premiums) -- I said I would give it a go, the HR Manager was a little bemused, but even more confused when I asked if I could have the data, so I could work out how to shave two tenths of my journey by taking a different braking point, later apex and getting the power on sooner.  Apparently its not that type of system ;)

This will affect trackdays, in which way I don't know yet.  Maybe the end off.

You would hope they known when they arent on the road!

This society is getting so 1984 big brothery and like Germany early 1930s with small insignificant laws being brought in to affect privacy it's worrying...

Steady on lads.......got an idea.

Kick out the spongers...immigrants or not.

Burn Brussels

Tar and feather the politicians

Blockade the ports

Ban aircraft

Set a minimum speed limit...say 60 mph

And PARTY

Never mind 'where's Wally......where's Norman ???

So what happens if your box breaks? It would be terrible if it just kept getting disconnected.

I hate these big brother type devices the old argument of "if you're not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to fear " brigade really get my goat. Especially as it's a load of rubbish.

What about overtaking it's far safer to overtake faster than to crawl past. What about the ridiculous limits set, what about at different times of the day and weather conditions. All this is ignored by these boxes making them a danger rather than an asset. This will just increase the number of numpties on the road that think speed is the only thing for safe driving ie the ones that do 40 mph along a national speed limit and think they are a good driver.

Sorry rant over

If we all refused it would die a death, however young drivers are being financially forced to use them so it creeps in. The reason that so many are keen on these is simple, road pricing and making money. You will always get insurance  but in the future it will loaded for everything, so if you are rich no issue.

Goverments all around the world want road pricing, but the cost is huge. This way all new cars will be fitted with them and paid for by us, in the guise of safety, and then a simple link and hey presto a viable road pricing telematrics system on the cheap.

We get what we allow.

What's the betting it will be he most robust piece of electronic hardware in the car too! And when it does break one of the most expensive to replace.

Well, here's the thing.... They have the technology to make it so that a GPS box could limit your cars speed on any given road.

But they won't use that technology because they know there are circumstanced where you need to use more speed (like overtaking), letting us break the law is far more profitable.

So clearly what this really is, it's just another way of milking us more even more money.

How would it work on my any driver over 25 fleet policy. ??? I have enough checks to make already before letting anyone in any of my vehicles....

Ok don't knock what you haven't tried ;(

So I down loaded safe mate driver monitoring app for free and got this???????

7D6ED06F-C58C-4F5A-A5A0-50CAB475111F_zps

I didn't change lanes once

I live at the top of a steep 2 mile hill with tight bends

I even had to stop on one bend as there were sheep all over the road

If I don't brake heavy and turn I will go off the road and crash

The technology doesn't work I've tested it this morning, try it yourself for laugh :( :( :(
