TableLeg Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I could really do with tacking some metal work in order that I could then take the parts to a professional for proper welding. I haven't welded using a MIG before but did some ARC welding many many years ago (only DIY stuff). I looked to see how much a 'budget' MIG welder would be and find that there are a number of welders for around £100. Are these types any good for welding up to 2mm mild steel. http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/sealey-mightymig100-professional-no-gas-p141438?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=product-extensions&gclid=CPmxqJ3uvb4CFdLHtAodUDMAoA Thanks in advance. Boombang Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Gasless welders give terrible welds, better of renting or borrowing for that IMHO. What are you welding? Quote
TableLeg Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks for the reply. I don't plan on actually welding anything, it would just be a heck of a lot easier for me to tack all the relevant parts together (of which there are a few) and then rely on a Pro to do the proper welding. I'm probably going to have to pay a welder to come to my house and weld in my garage for some of the larger parts and as the welder charges by the hour tacking all the relevant parts in place before could save me a lot of money. cszjrh Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 A mate of mine recommended a mobile welder who is based down in Tunbridge Wells so possibly not too far from you? He made me new engine mounts, did a couple of other bits of welding and fabricated me a couple of other mountings all on-site. Good looking work, a nice chap and a very reasonable day rate. PM me if you'd like his contact details. Cheers, John Quote

Graham0127 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Isn't a MIG welder some eastern European that fixes dodgy old jet fighters ? Quote

I actually meant what was it you are fabricating. My brother is in Hengrave near Bury St Edmunds, probably going up in a few weeks. If it's not a huge task and time works out, happy to chuck my welder in the boot and tack it up for you. Quote
