bigron
I thought I'd seen that colour scheme somewhere ....welcome to the wonderful world of westfields Brilliant, never seen that before!
bigron
That does not look good.. Never mind the MOT, think about your safety. Yep, you are completely right. I'm on the case. The tank can be moved back away from the bolt and held in place by alloy straps fitted to the chassis Thanks. I've dropped a mail to westfield to see if they have the straps or a tank replacement for my model/year. I guess I could fabricate some, and perhaps a protection bar like the newer kits look to have as standard. What would be the best way of fixing these to the chassis? Rivnuts? Thanks for the help. bigron
Ok so i've started taking the fuel tank out today to see if there is a hole where the bolt has been rubbing. While it doesn't look as though its warn through, I think i'll still get it welded up with a small Ali plate. Right now i've got everything ready to pull the tank out however its still got fuel in. Whats the best way of draining it? Would it be ok to use the fuel pump to pull the fuel out on ignition (image below) or is it best to let gravity take its course and let it drain from where the fuel pickup outlet is? Jonk179
Only an MOT test fail if there is a fuel leak but fix it ASAP as it is dangerous and if nothing else very costly.
Jonk179
Let it drain via gravity.
Rory's Dad
I think i'll still get it welded up with a small Ali plate. No need to weld - just stick it on with silicone if you think it's a problem. You need to find a way of moving the tank backwards a smidge. You could also reduce the thickness of the head of the bolt a smidge too and it will need the raw end rustproofed. And what's the other side like??

You could also reduce the thickness of the head of the bolt a smidge too and it will need the raw end rustproofed. And what's the other side like?? It looks like the fuel filler hose was either not put on fully or its worked loose a tad so its only on the right hand side (looking from the back) that has gotten close to the bolt. So the plan is: 1. Drain the tank today a and get it out fully. 2. Find an ali plate to silicone on 3. Fit a tank protection like the one described here: http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/97669-fuel-tank-crush-bar/?p=995158 4. Fit some stainless steel straps to replace the nylon ones. I've got some neoprene tape to put inbetween the straps and the tank too. I've also got some new vition rubber to replace the sender seal as it looked to be leaking fuel at the first fill of the tank. Thanks for all the help....again
