Hello all. Been skulking around on the forum for a month or so and finally bit the bullet and bought a car from the classifieds off of Glade.

Been driving around all weekend with the biggest grin. Looking forward to tinkering and also joining up on some meets.

Already have a oil catch tank leak, speedo cable and fuel tank gasket to fix. I've never done any car maintenance before so will probably be asking some stoopid questions at some point :-)

Welcome Aaron, unusual colour scheme - looks good! Cracking engine too, the Toyota.

Don't worry about asking questions, though you might find half a dozen different ways of doing the same thing!

Yep, I have the 3rd June in the diary to come to the fox and grapes. Where do you take yours for MOT round here?

Forgive me John - you know an awful lot about cars but nothing about those computer thingamebobs.

I'm sure his mate Mark will pick your email up  :)

On another note. I was fitting the spare wheel (for the number plate light) ready for the MOT and noticed that the fuel tank is rubbing up against the bolt that holds the wishbone to the chassis. I havent had chance to get in to see if there is a hole but I have a feeling (from when I filled the tank last) that there could well be one warn away.

So is it silly to ask, would this fail the MOT? My presumption is yes.

That does not look good..  Never mind the MOT, think about your safety.  Newer tanks have a dimple say 3mm deep to keep the bolt a little further away from the tank.  Is that some kind of strapping holding the tank?  This is usually made from aluminium lined with self adhesive rubber tape to keep it safe.  I think your going to have to find a way to resolve this.

I'm sure John will provide some good advice prior to the MOT test.

The tank can be moved back away from the bolt and held in place by alloy straps fitted to the chassis
