Not sure about this............ Cars are often stockpiled before being shipped abroad, often in their thousands.

If you head on down to some of these fields full of cars, you'll often notice they're unfashionable (in the UK) colours and with terrible interiors. Leather seats are a very western thing.

 

They also keep stockpiles of new/unused cars, pre register them (sound familiar?) and then sell them into the 2nd hand market a year or so later. This keeps the 2nd hand market afloat, which in turn drives demand for new cars.

 

Also, they don't produce cars as and when they're needed, they produce in advance of predicted sales.
