Based on my experience, for track days such as destination Nurburgring/ circuit days yes (people like Ryan) but third party cover for public days no.  That's why I will no longer do public days as just not worth the risk.

I think there is some aspect of EU law that means as a German public road the insurance company must cover but in their terms they will exclude.

What this means is that if you knock off a motorbike or drop oil and a biker falls and injures himself, if he is German his insurance company will come to yours to claim.  Your insurance company will then pay and come after you to recover their losses.

If you don't have many assets then may be worth the risk.  If you own your own home etc then a lot to loose.

If you google / search PH there are a few people in this situation.

Some good info here-

http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/insurance.php

But generally what XTR says, a lot of insurers over the years have listed it not covered specifically in your insurance documents as 'Nurburgring', 'De-restricted toll roads' etc..

Just don't drive at ten tenths and be aware of what is around you/coming up behind :)

I'm off there on the 12th - 16th June.

Yes i am of there in May - consider the risk as above and choose/drive accordingly. I would avoid weekends if its your first visit . Also remember unlike track days they allow cars and bikes (lorries and buses too) at the same time. It can catch you out if you drive at the max....  Drive it like a country road you enjoy not a track day and its less stressful but be very vigilant for people on a qualifying lap !

Went there 2 years ago and was a bit naïve regarding insurance just nipped over for a few laps during the week, it was really quiet and not a lot on there so had 5 laps with just a few bikers on the ring, I drove really carefully and just kept my eye on the rear view mirror. I lived in Germany for some time but never went to the ring, I will see what the weather is like and nip over if its good. Thanks for the info guys really appreciated.

Can you chaps kindly refrain from using the phrase "i am off there in May"

Brings nasty visions to my fertile imagination.

I would never drive my own car on a regular public TF day any more. If I want to do TF, I'll hire a car.

If I want to use my own car, definitely an organised track day like DN etc.
