Ime sure when we saw the finished car, just before he jumped in and drove it out the workshop, it had no top hose on !

I think a lot of people forget that these things are filmed in a different order to which they may eventually appear on screen.

I noticed that and thought "that ain't gonna work mate" :p

Restoration was too quick for my liking. Should have taken at least 7 years not weeks :p  :d

Great program, took me back to my first car, a 1979 MkII Escort 1.3L. She was a year older than me. Drove her for 7 years, learnt basic spannering with my dad on the kerb and sold her on for what I paid for her. Wish I hadn't, the Pug 306 I bought after was built like Mr Potato Head.

Early Escorts had a lovely, safe balance for sliding round wet roundabouts with very little power. Always preferred the MkI RS2000 to the Mexico.

Nice to watch an uncomplicated tv show that even my wife enjoyed. Not quite the documentary type I was expecting, but good to see some guys enjoying their cars and most importantly having FUN !!!

Looking forward to this Sunday........Landies....my wife's favourite ..........God knows why ?

Yeah, just watched it this evening, and quite enjoyed it. Would love to have seen the restoration itself, but it wouldn't have made particularly good TV.

Much as as I like a good nuts and bolts type restoration program, I do enjoy these more general takes on the idea too, I don't mind if they're done dead straight, or humorously, as long as they actually respect and have appreciation for the subject - which most don't.

So far, this series looks promising, sure it's lighthearted, but there's genuine affection for the cars and the people. Looking forward to the next one.

there are some truly terrible car TV shows - this one was better than most and I enjoyed it but yes a bit more of the restoration would have made it better still

some of the worst shows are so scripted, once you have seen one show you have basically seen them all apart from the change of vehicles each week

  • 3 weeks later...

Might be one for 4od'ing sometime in the week.

Now I have a female housemate alongside Tehran colleague, the TV is on more, and we have to battle to keep it on engineering bent not 'celebrate get me out of this talent soap' although she does like storagehunters which is a new one on me.

Alternatively I might just go back to eating in my bedroom!
