The Westfield was rudely evicted from the garage last weekend when the old cable/spring/drum operated door failed. On my head. All fixed now, but it's time to bump the replacement garage door project up the list.

From a thread on here I had a company come round to quote for and demonstrate a seceuroglide automatic roller door. I was quite impressed with the security features and how quiet/smooth it was. However the quote came in at just shy of 2k, which I think is a touch steep for a single garage door (max dimensions 2.3m x 2.3m).

The company that came round to fix the current door left a leaflet for 'alluguard' and believed they could do it for around £1,100. This also has a 'secured by design' rating.

Has anyone been presented with these options? Or are there any other secure roller doors to consider?

I quite liked the seceuroglide one, but it's a fair chunk of cash more expensive!

I paid 1600 for mine a few years ago. So 2k for that size isn't a bad price

You should be able to get a hormann or garador remote control insulated single door for just over 1K fitted, I've had a double garador fitted to my new house just last year, and that was only 2K fitted.

You can get alloy roller doors insulated and fitted at about 1k, but mine is 40mm thick and made in 5 sections, very strong and super warm in the winter....

Take a look, at garador and is the same door as hormann....

Ive got one that 2 people have to man handle up and then it settles into a lop sided rest just low enough for me to catch my head on

I would think theyre quite cheap :)

I had a pair of Seceuroglide Compacts fitted a few weeks ago and they were £1500 each. I would have preferred the sectional ones but my garage doesn't allow them, unfortunately.

This got me searching through old invoices to see what I paid for 2 Henderson canopy doors complete with steel outer frames from TP. Made to my size secured with door in frame and ready to bolt into wall an easy DIY job for two. The four point locking system snaps open and the spring loaded doors opens 75% in a nano second and quicker than any power door. This was 3 years ago but total cost under £900.00.!!!

Love it, just needs to make a "phsssst" sound for that true Star Wars sensation when you're getting the car out!  ;)

Seriously though, got some old horrible metal thing at home, but the insulated doors we see at clients now, since the regs changes a few years back, are amazing. The difference in heat loss with them can be most impressive.

I fitted a sectional insulated Novoferm door with automatic opening for less than a grand and my garage opening is 3 mtr wide. That was a couple of years ago and I fitted it myself which wasn't to bad a job . Just a giant meccano set . Worth a look maybe?

My single garage door did the same sort of thing, suddenly let go of the spring, which is now coiled up in the corner like some sort of giant snake ready to take my head off.

I had a poke around and reckon £300 - £600 for a manually (internal) operated roller door.

Decision made... looks like the Alluguard one, whilst having a Secured by Design rating, is to a lesser standard than the Seceuroglide one so I'll stump up the extra. Of course, I hope this decision is never vindicated! However, it's likely to be the only garage door I ever buy for this house, so may as well spend the extra.

Summer upgradititus just took a 2k dent

I've got a garage door going spare. It's American made with 4 panels that slide up into rails along the top. It is designed for an electric motor but I bought 3 of them for 120€ at a Casterama closing down sale.

I've fitted one and you can have one of the others if you want to come and get it.

That's a great offer! Unfortunately can't go sectional as I want to get the Discovery into the garage as well, which only really leaves me with roller doors seeing as I want to maximise width. Thanks though :t-up:

I had wanted sectional but haven't got the headroom or the clear space for the sections to slide back into due to an RSJ holding up part of my house!

These roll up int two channels which are at right angles to the top of the uprights. The top runners are located with dexion angles held in place on the oak frame (but could be walls or girders.
