Speed Series & Car Insurance, Who's using who ?

I've been having a battle getting the right cover with my motor trade insurer for the Westy as it's a Q plate and I'll be competing in the speed series, so I thought I would get a quote to compare from our WSCC trader insurers A Plan & Footman James :(

A Plan very helpful and happy to insure with all the correct info, ie a cage fitted, competing in speed series & track days but quite a high quote for a very limited mileage policy.

Footman James, well a complete waste of time     they declined to quote as I'll be competing and doing trackdays and if I had an accident and made a claim they wouldn't know if it had happened on the road or on track, as one of our speed series sponsors I would have expected them to be a little more use to dealing with this situation.

So can I ask who all you road going class speed series competitors use for road insurance on your Westfields ?

Most of us do not insure our cars for track days or springing/hillclimbing. I we damage it we repair it

Sorry I probably didn't explain that clearly so your not understanding me Terry :(

When getting quotes for road insurance for the Westfield I'm being asked if the car will ever be used for track days, sprints or hillclimbs, so I say, "yes but I'm not looking for cover for that, just for road use" on that basis Footman James delcined to quote, A Plan are happy to insure but at a price.

I use A-Plan. Also used Sureterm for many years. Very happy with both companies. Good service and prices from both. A-Plan edged ahead this year and what with all the good reports on here, I thought I'd give them a try.

Neither have a problem with track/competition use.

Like you, different story with Footman James.  I tried them a few years back, seeing as they are a Speed Series Sponsor, and was staggered to be told, like you, that they would not insure me for road use because the car is also used on track.  Truly bizarre, and seems at odds with their Speed Series sponsorship.

I'm puzzled why you find A-Plan's prices unfavourable. Most people appear to be paying between £85 - £135 which seems very good to me.

Just renewed the mighty cross flow, 107 pounds all in for fully comp. considering the massive power I have that's a deal...

You didn't answer "yes" to have you ever parked it upside down at 70mph did u Marto ? Wink wink

Like RussH A-Plan quoted me twice what your suggesting which I thought a bit expensive, but if it's the best I can honestly then thats the way I'll go

It's not down to the cage is it?

Cages and superchargers seem to be the two buzzwords insurance wise when it comes to Westfields.

Good point Dave,

When asked about modifications I did mention it has a cage fitted, though seams daft if your premium gets loaded for added safety equipment or for any type of use which the insurance doesn't cover, but then what do I know ???  ??? ???

And bike engines. Although I was told a cage is less of an issue than a charger or BEC.

For what it's worth mine was £135 (fully comp 4k miles) with A-Plan underwritten by LV (I think). What I planned to do while not on the road, bar garaging it, wasn't discussed.

Good point, sorry, forgot bike engines, oops!

To be fair, I never enquired what actual difference the cage or SC would make. Was simply asked if I had either, as that was all that would affect the cost as far as my cars spec went. As I had neither, I left it there...

I'm with A plan and told them all the mods etc and it was a great price.

I think it is a very individual thing!

The more public it is, the emotional it may become!
