SootySport Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Have a gander at the PlaysKool and Westfield factory offers. R1R's for you would be best. Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Personally I can't see the point in going for the anything other than the 888s or the like. With anything other you're always going to be wondering if you can get more grip. They really aren't that bad even in the wet, we hurl the things at the edge of their limit on the hills and sprints and they're fine. If the the 'road' tyres were better for this, then I and many others would have a set for the wet racing? If I was you I'd be on medium 888s, you won't regret it, but if you find yourself pushing hard on a set of R1rs ... you might Quote
TAFKARM Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I agree with Darren, but 595 RSRs because Im a cheapskate. Quote
alexander72 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Its an interesting one this - with my medium A048 in my low powered car on the road I have never lost traction unless its sub zero and wet. In the dry the AO48's and especially the new ZZrs are worth another 75 BHP compared to how the car grips compared to mightier machines on "road rubber" Quote
Rory's Dad Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I had R888s and then swapped for T1Rs mostly due to cost (£150 for 4, rather than £120 each). Now I'm not a red mist specialist but have found the T1Rs 'nearly' as good as the R888s in the dry (I've not spun in either) but feel so much safer in the wet. The R888s were slithery under heavy braking but T1Rs are not. No signs of any wear either. Quote
alexander72 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Good call Martin :-) I dont know any different but managed 5,000 miles last year on A048's Quote
Onliest Smeg David Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I have been thoughly impressed with my 195 T1Rs on road and track. Car came with 888s on and soon got rid due to cold / damp performance. Will consider R1Rs when T1Rs need replacement. And thinking of getting 2nd wheel/tyre combo for track when funds allow. For you it really depends on your use and in what conditions you'll still venture out. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Sorry, but having done near six thousand road miles on R888's and over four thousand on R1R's all year round in a Westfield, R888's aren't even close. The water dispersion is a joke in comparison, the other key difference is how they behave on cold tarmac. Much, much better that my R888's ever were. But they're not a track "wet", so if going to the trouble of buying a track wet, you'd surely get a proper one in an appropriate compound? Plus you are very limited in sizes suitable for Westfields. No 13" at all, and 15"s are limited once outside the 195/205 staples. I'm not saying their aren't some cracking "trackday" style road tyres from other makers that can't match them; but you will really struggle to find anything at the price other than AO21's from Yokohama - which incidentally fulfil the 13" and good range of widths criterion for sprinting that R1R's fall down on.
