New tyres - but which one's?

Having just bought the car, it currently has Toyo R888's on (195/50/15's), but these are fairly well worn and will need replacing soon.

Car will be used 95% on the road with a few track days thrown in.  What do people generally run for this??

I like my R888 on medium compound for the road but try not to get caught out in the rain

I ran the same tyres for sprinting and hill climbs last year too ;)

That might be why my avatar photo is of me spinning :)

Toyo R1R's for me - very good

Federal 595 RSRs for me. Nice, cheaper alternative to 888's.

+1 here also

Switched from 888s to R1Rs. The latter tramline less on bumpy roads and have way more grip in damp and wet conditions. Cool tread too !

Why not keep the 888s for track use and use R1Rs for the road ?

Did think about this, but realistically this would mean buying another set of wheels as I wouldn't want to be changing tyres each time I tracked it.  Also, having only just got the car, I seriously doubt my skills would demand the need for track and road tyres to be any different - I wasn't planning on competing............. this year at least!!!

R1Rs are about 1/3 less as well (£100 ish per corner rather than £150) after some googling.

If you were to compete and get another wheel set I'd probably opt for 13" as well.

My local fitting shop will change them for £10 a corner, and Oponeo price them at:

R1R's @ £66 each

R888's @ £81 each

Why smaller 13" wheels for track use?

Avon ZZR's or AO48's on mine - avon for track use and AO48 for road

13" wheels are lighter and make you go quicker owing to smaller circumference..

Thats good, think I am on the slightly wider 205/50/15 which may make a difference.

R1R's for predominantly road use Westfields all day long.

R1Rs get my vote also for road use. Decent price also.

Thanks all.  R1R's seem to be the popular choice - the cut tread looks pretty too!!  Might try and squeeze 1 track day out of the 888's then switch.
